Job description

Overview

Join to apply for the Assembly role at Owens Corning.

Shift: Nights Monday-Thursday 6:00pm-4:30am. Overtime on Fridays. Pay Rate: $20 Hourly.

Responsibilities
  • Operate machinery required for the position in a safe and efficient manner, including training of new and existing operators in their duties.
  • Inspect product for defects and take appropriate action as per work instructions, monitor Quality Technician for consistency.
  • Carry out measurements and weight checks.
  • Assemble product as per instructions with a focus on quality and safety.
  • Practice Masonite Lean Manufacturing Techniques including 5S+1.
  • Communicate efficiently with other employees and the leadership team to ensure quality product is made in a timely manner.
  • Read and interpret list counts and complete all departmental paperwork correctly and timely.
  • Perform weekly EHS audits.
  • Participate in Safety Kaizens and Masonite Plant Kaizens.
  • Help create/implement poke yokes for quality issues.
  • Read, understand and follow production schedules.
  • Set up and adjust equipment.
  • Gather materials as needed.
  • Operate motorized equipment (e.g., forklift, KVAL lifts) as needed.
  • Perform minor preventative maintenance and operator care as required.
  • Assist Management, Maintenance and Quality personnel when troubleshooting equipment, process or material issues.
  • Communicate effectively for flow of product through the plant.
  • Maintain downtime records and production information as appropriate.
  • Perform housekeeping duties.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment and work safely according to procedures.
  • Use tools and equipment such as a Tape Measure and Caliper; use push carts.
  • Understand door construction build and assist in aligning components during assembly.
  • Record production times, ticket quantities, and track production/downtime hourly; manage material adjustments and rejects.
  • Set break light prior to break time.
Knowledge
  • Read and interpret tickets.
  • Basic reading and writing skills; ability to perform simple arithmetic with fractions and decimals.
  • Proficient at reading/interpreting quality specs, door construction, door types, core types, and related components.
Skills

High level of dexterity and skill to assemble doors, perform visual quality checks, and understand build construction specifications. Must work well as a team with Front Man.

Responsibilities (cont.)

Little to no supervision, proper placement of components to match build construction, run from tickets, verify quality/quantity, ensure backboard is in place prior to assembly of next stack.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bending, twisting, stooping, and standing throughout shift.
  • Must work at a fast pace and handle multiple parts that may have glue on them.
  • Strong eye/hand coordination.
  • Standing for long continuous hours.
Mental Demands

Attention to detail of build construction and accuracy of material placement. Focus on glue level and hand placements.

Social

Must work closely with another operator, skin flipper, and pressman as a team.

Working Environment
  • Mildly controlled environment with possible cold or heat during extreme weather.
  • Mild dust environment.
