Job summary

Wabtec in Salem, VA is hiring a Direct Hire Assembler on the 1st shift. Pay rate is $16.50–$18.50 per hour, Monday–Thursday, 6:00 AM–4:30 PM. You will work on a production line, using hand and power tools to build, test, and package components with a strong emphasis on safety and quality.

Qualifications

• Experience using hand tools and power tools in an assembly or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Basic math, reading, and computer skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and disassemble products on a production line according to work instructions and engineering drawings.
• Assemble, test, and package products for shipment.
• Assist in multiple work cells and support cross-training activities as needed.
• Maintain quality standards, production goals, and accurate counts.
• Follow ISO procedures and company safety guidelines.
• Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe.
• Report equipment malfunctions and process issues to appropriate personnel.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency and quality.

• Frequent standing and walking throughout the shift.
• Constant handling, reaching, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
• Occasional bending, climbing, overhead reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
