Job summary

Construction Specialties, Inc. in the United States is seeking a dependable assembler to support manufacturing operations. You will handle subassemblies and final assembly, operating table saws, band saws, drills, routers, and measuring devices with attention to detail.

You will verify product dimensions, follow work orders, and maintain quality while ensuring a safe, clean workspace in an ISO 14001 environment. Training for hazardous materials, and regular safety audits are part of the role.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and 6–12 months related experience or training.
  • Training on hazardous material and waste handling within 6 months of hire and annually thereafter.
  • Ability to read a tape measure to 1/16 inch and interpret work orders/drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Receive work assignments from Production Supervisor and perform tasks independently or with others.
  • Set up and operate saws, drills, routers and related equipment per work orders.
  • Assemble subassemblies and final products with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Maintain clean, organized work area and adhere to ISO 14001 EMS guidelines.
  • Perform quality checks on own work using color codes, measurements, and sample products.
  • Report issues to Production Supervisor and ensure safe operation of all equipment.
  • Assist with material requests and follow up on production needs.

SCOPE OF POSITION:

Working under minimum supervision, performs various manufacturing operations on jobs. Includes manufacturing of subassemblies and final assembly.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receives work assignments from department Production Supervisor.

  • Completes assigned tasks alone or assists others in various tasks.

  • Ensures that guards and safety devices are installed on equipment used and are operating properly. Performs required equipment safety inspections. Reports any discrepancies to Production Supervisor and shuts equipment down.

  • Adjusts and operates saw equipment to cut extruded stock, metal and plastic to the size and shape specified by the work order. Positions fixtures and clamps to properly locate direction of cut.

  • Uses other shop equipment as needed such as hand drill or drill press, punch and die press, fixed router, nut drivers and heat forming equipment.

  • Performs assembly using materials and parts designated by the work order, production sheet, drawings, or catalog specifications. Follows established procedures and operations prescribed to assemble products.

  • Performs simple and repetitive manufacture or make up of sub assemblies for stock.

  • Ensures conformance to all aspects of the ISO 14001 standard and Construction Specialties’ Environmental Management System (EMS), including its environmental policy while performing job functions that may have a significant impact on the environment.

  • Performs on going quality control of own work such as using color chips to verify correct color, product (extrusion) samples for correct size and shape, and measuring devices to verify correct lengths/widths.

  • Follows directions to perform other company related work when time permits or when directed.

  • Maintains work area, equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly condition.

  • Reports any problems or difficulties to Production Supervisor or Production Services Manager.

  • Ensures that hazardous material and waste handling is conducted within the guidelines of the training provided.

  • Performs other duties assigned by management

  • Request material as needed via pull list.

  • Assures quality of work through accuracy, neatness, paying attention to details, thorough understanding of information, with minimal amount of rework. Conveys personal commitment to quality by demonstrating good quality behavior. Identifies and acts upon opportunities to improve quality of material or process.

  • Ensures conformance to all aspects of the ISO 14001 standard and Construction Specialties’ Environmental Management System (EMS), including its environmental policy while performing job functions that may have a significant impact on the environment.

  • Follows directions to perform other company related work when time permits or when directed

  • Scan time and quantities in BPCS for work performed.

  • Reviews job requirements and checks completed work to ensure that manufactured or assembled products comply with requirements and meet quality standards.

Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE/ EDUCATION: (Minimum Education and/or Experience required)
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and six to twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Will require training with respect to guidelines for hazardous material and waste handling within six (6) months of hire and annually thereafter.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend a tape measure to the 1/16th, work orders, drawings and work instructions.

  • Ability to operate table saw, band saw, drill press, hand drill, nut driver, nail/staple gun, punch/die press, router, shaper, heat former/welder, miter saw, sander, rivet tool and measuring devices.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance, and taste or smell.

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
