Job description

Assembler

Universal Industries, Inc., a leading manufacturer of material handling equipment, has an immediate FT opening for an experienced assembler at our Cedar Falls location. Qualified candidate will have 1+ years experience in a manufacturing environment and be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, written work instructions and procedure manuals. This position requires the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure and be able to apply common sense and understanding in carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral and/or diagram format, skilled with hand and power tools. We seek a self‑motivated individual with mechanical ability that is capable of working in a fast‑paced union environment with minimal supervision.

The physical demands involve standing, lifting, walking, bending, twisting, reaching and other repetitive motions, requiring a moderate amount of exertion, on a regular and daily basis for a minimum of an eight‑hour shift. The candidate must be able to occasionally lift up to 70 lbs.

Status: Full‑Time/Hourly
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Assemble terminals, drives, complete units and/or sub‑assemblies as required.
  • Read shop orders to assure proper part call‑out on configured and non‑configured orders and notify supervisor when incorrect.
  • Picks assembly components as required and accurately.
  • Read and interpret drawings and other manuals and documents relating to product assembly.
  • Assemble parts by following written work instructions and manuals.
  • Inspect assemblies for proper alignment and fit, notify supervisor if there is a problem.
  • Do final inspection of assembled units using final audit form, sign and date form verifying correct completion.
  • Use hand tools to fasten parts together with bolts, screws, speed clips, rivets, or other fasteners.
  • Remove small quantities of metal with hand files and scrapers to produce close fit between parts.
  • Operate material handling equipment, drills, presses, grinders or other power tools and machines to assist in assembly operation as required or directed by supervisor or lead person.
  • Operate manufacturing computer system accurately in relation to timecard and shop order data entry.
  • Maintain acceptable direct labor hours and efficiency percentages.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements/Qualifications
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, written work instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Regularly able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
