Job summary

Cornell University Hospital for Animals is seeking a Pre-Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our team in Ithaca, NY. You will work under Licensed Veterinary Technicians and veterinarians while pursuing an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology degree.

Responsibilities include assisting with patient care, labs, clinical preparation, client service, and maintaining organized spaces. The role offers hands-on nursing experience toward licensure and requires evening/weekend availability.

Qualifications

• High school diploma with six months of basic animal handling experience.
• Accepted and enrolled in an AVMA accredited associates' degree in veterinary technology distant learning program (SUNY Delhi preferred).
• Must obtain Veterinary Technology degree within three years while enrolled.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to follow instructions and seek clarification when needed.
• Knowledge of basic veterinary medicine concepts including vaccinations and lab testing.
• Ability to learn and use ezyVet EMR.
• Strong communication skills and responsiveness to feedback.
• Ability to restrain animals weighing over 50 pounds.
• Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays and other shifts.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient care activities including exams, restraint, medication administration, and patient transport.
• Support diagnostic and treatment procedures through lab sample collection and processing.
• Provide client service by assisting with appointments, consultations, and discharges.
• Maintain organized clinical operations by stocking supplies, sanitizing spaces, and completing EMR tasks (ezyVet).
