The starting salary for a DCJ Deputy Assistant State's Attorney ranges from $97,997 to $175,434 annually, while Apprentice Prosecutor is paid $46.94 per hour.

Qualifications

• Attorney at law with membership in good standing with the Connecticut Bar.
• Apprentice Prosecutor path available for law students within five months of graduation and certified as a legal intern.
• Background check required for incumbents.

Responsibilities

• Reviews all documentation relative to assigned criminal cases and infractions and directs supplemental or further investigation.
• Prepares cases for arraignment, selecting appropriate charges and preparing the original statement of facts.
• Reviews outstanding defense motions and prepares responses or objections as appropriate.
• Interviews witnesses and victims.
• Evaluates strengths and weaknesses of the case.
• Initiates and completes related legal research.
• Responsible for plea negotiations with defense attorneys.
• Conducts pre-trial conferences; jury selection; tr ies cases before juries or magistrates.
• Reviews applications for arrest warrants and presents to presiding judge for final review.
• Maintains liaison with state and local police and advises victims of crimes.
• Defends petitions of habeas corpus and prepares pleadings; may defend appellate material if in Appellate Unit.
• May review applications for search and seizure warrants.
• Performs related duties as required.
