Job summary

Manatt's is seeking an Asphalt Screed Operator (Seasonal) based in Newton, IA, with statewide travel to project sites. You will operate asphalt screed equipment on roadways, parking lots, and patching, perform daily maintenance, and coordinate with the paving team to ensure a smooth, dense surface.

This role requires adherence to safety policies (OSHA), conduct of pre- and post-inspections, and the ability to work long hours, including weekends during peak season.

Qualifications

Summary

Candidate must have knowledge in the operation of the screed on Asphalt Paving machines in all types of Asphalt Paving, (roadways, commercial parking lots, and patching). You will be responsible for the daily maintenance and the efficient working condition of the equipment, conversing with asphalt paver operators to ensure a smooth surface, in addition to performing other various duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• The Equipment Operator will collaborate between field foreman and paving team, maintain production and direct asphalt trucks, and perform ground tasks such as luting and shoveling black top.

Knowledge, Skills and Ability

• Adhere to all company safety requirements, procedures and policies along with OSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
• Operator will be responsible for a safe work environment for themselves, co-workers, pedestrians and the traveling public.
• Responsible for completing daily pre-and-post inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with company policies.
• When working with co-workers, constant eye contact will be maintained when backing, communicating using hand signals or other movements.
• The operator is responsible for operating equipment safely and efficiently and is expected to report any issues or irregularities to the supervisor.
• Operate and maneuvering machine in a specific rolling patterns and process on asphalt and related surfaces such as roadways and parking lots.
• Control process to achieve specified densities, smoothness of mat, any unnecessary roughness and/or irregularities in mat and ride quality of materials.
• May perform other duties, such as adding or removing implements to asphalt paver such as screed extensions, grade control sensors and equipment and other accessories associated with asphalt equipment.
• Follow direction of supervisor as to daily task and expectations for each specific project or jobsite.
• Performing general physical activities. Performing physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving your whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and handling and moving of materials.
• The operator is responsible for quality control.
• Assist in training less experienced employees on the proper operations, methods, servicing and repair equipment to further their abilities.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Other Qualifications

• Ability to work long hours, including weekends during peak season.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced outdoor and in industrial environments.
• Ability to work seasonally.
• Acceptable driving record and a vehicle to get to the various job sites.
