C.R. Jackson is hiring a Screed Operator to support our asphalt paving operations across South Carolina. In this role, you will help produce smooth, high-quality asphalt surfaces by operating and controlling the screed on the asphalt paver.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of asphalt paving experience, with screed operation preferred.
• Knowledge of asphalt paving techniques, grade control, and mat quality.

Responsibilities

• Operate the screed to control the width, depth, and smoothness of asphalt placement.
• Work closely with the paver operator to maintain a consistent mat and proper material flow.
• Adjust screed settings to meet project specifications and grade requirements.
• Monitor asphalt quality and make adjustments as paving conditions change.
• Assist with equipment inspections, setup, and basic maintenance.
• Help keep the job site clean, organized, and safe.
• Communicate effectively with crew members to ensure efficient paving operations.
• Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Do:

• Operate the screed to control the width, depth, and smoothness of asphalt placement
• Work closely with the paver operator to maintain a consistent mat and proper material flow
• Adjust screed settings to meet project specifications and grade requirements
• Monitor asphalt quality and make adjustments as paving conditions change
• Assist with equipment inspections, setup, and basic maintenance

What We're Looking For:

• Valid driver's license required
• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Minimum 2 years of asphalt paving experience, with screed operation preferred
• Knowledge of asphalt paving techniques, grade control, and mat quality
• Ability to understand and follow directions
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing a quality finished product
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
• Reliable, punctual, and safety-focused
• Willingness to work overtime, nights, and weekends as required
• Commitment to safety and proper use of PPE
• Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screening

Physical Requirements :

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
• Ability to climb on and off paving equipment safely
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach throughout the workday
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, dust, and noise
• Ability to work on uneven terrain and active construction sites
• Maintain awareness of surrounding personnel, equipment, and traffic for safe operations
