Responsibilities

• Assist Plant Manager with calculations of hours, materials, and resources to ensure efficient operation.

• Supervise crew to optimize production while following OSHA standards and policies.
• Raise potential problems to the Plant Manager and assist with resolutions.
• Care for and operate equipment; report maintenance needs as required.
• Operate or supervise use of earthmovers, loaders, and related gear for safe plant operations.
• Prepare field logs on production, usage, and man-hours for approval.
• Assist with employee management, recruitment, training, and documentation as instructed by HR.

Baldwin Paving Company, Inc. is currently seeking an Assistant Plant Manager to join our team. This will be a full-time role. This position reports to the Plant Manager. The ideal candidate will have general construction or mining industry experience specifically with metal fabrication, forging, and/or erecting experience to include crane work and superior time management and communication skills. This position runs on an 8-to-10-hour shift which includes nights and weekends. The rotation from day and night shifts will be from month to month.

General Summary of the Position

The Assistant Plant Manager's primary function is to assist the Plant Manager with the coordination of work activities and resources necessary for the manufacturing of hot mix asphalt and aggregate products in accordance with cost, quality, and quantity specifications.

Essential Functions include but are not limited to (other duties may be assigned as needed):

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

• Assist Plant Manager with calculations, including hours involved, tons of materials needed, along with truck, plant and employee resources required to ensure efficient plant operation.
• Assist Plant Manager with work schedules, determining manpower levels, material quantities, trucking, and equipment requirements.
• Supervise the crew in a manner that optimizes production while adhering to OSHA standards, contract compliance, company policies and all applicable laws.
• Advise the Plant Manager of potential problems, work interferences, schedule difficulties, etc. and assist the Plant Manager with problem resolution as required.
• Exercise proper care, maintenance, and operation of company equipment; notify the shop of any maintenance needs.
• Operate or supervise the use of equipment like earthmovers, front end loaders, and other equipment to provide safe and effective plant operations.
• Assist Plant Manager with the day-to-day operations and material production, monitor and report equipment, material usage and man-hours by creating and submitting accurate field logs for approval.
• Assist Plant Manager with all aspects of employee management to include crew-safety, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, reprimanding, and terminations, including documenting reprimands and terminations properly as instructed by HR.
• Operate loading equipment as needed.
• Follow all Baldwin safety and environmental policies and procedures.

Work Environment:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving and mechanical parts and equipment.
• The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
• An employee will be exposed to dust and fumes from cleaners, gasoline, diesel, exhaust, etc.
• Employees will work outdoors and will be exposed to the weather, including extremes in heat and cold, rain, etc.

Physical Demands:

• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Requires manual dexterity and strength in arms and feet to manipulate equipment, controls, tools, and other items used to make adjustments and/or minor maintenance.
• Will use hands, arms, back and shoulders in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating pipes and other objects.
• Could be in a standing, bending, kneeling, or sitting position for long periods of time.

Other Requirements:

Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times. Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required. Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary. Report to the assigned job site in proper attire and ready to begin work at the designated start time. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Safety Manual. Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA and company policy. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position: Coveralls, Fall Protection, Gloves, Welding Gloves, Hard Hat, Hearing Protection, Padlocks for Lockout/Tagout, Respiratory Protection, Safety Glasses, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, Welding Aprons, Welding Helmet, Welding Shield.
