Job summary

Position Overview

The Asphalt Grounds Person supports daily operations at the asphalt plant by safely performing a wide range of manual and equipment-assisted tasks. The role follows direction from the supervisor but is carried out with a high level of independence for routine duties. This position also requires comfort working at heights.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
Plant Laborer
  • Participates in daily THINK/TRACK meetings plus weekly safety meetings.
  • Follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
  • Assists in plant production of materials and ensures the efficient working condition of the plant.
  • Walk and monitor the asphalt plant while in production to identify any issues.
  • Performs daily maintenance pre-checks on the plant and equipment.
  • Ensures that all assigned equipment is properly maintained, clean, in a safe working order and operated properly.
  • Prepares plant for operations at the beginning of the season and performs shut down procedures at the end of the season.
  • Operates front end loader, skidsteer, end dump truck and other heavy equipment as needed.
  • Performs plant maintenance and repairs as needed.
Other Duties
  • Uses various equipment, hand and power tools.
  • Picks up and/or delivers construction materials at job site locations.
  • Performs job site clean‑up.
  • Maintains all tools and equipment in a safe and clean condition.
  • Other duties as assigned per supervisor
Qualifications

Education/Experience
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Previous related experience in the construction field is a plus.
