Job summary

Page Mechanical Group, Inc. is seeking asphalt laborers for the Houma, LA area. Responsibilities include assisting with pouring, smoothing and setting asphalt, raking, sweeping and lining out roads, and working with paving equipment.

Must be able to pass a drug screen and work with flexible hours, including nights and weekends. Candidate must have reliable transportation and provide own PPE. Physical demands include lifting up to 55 lbs and outdoor work in varying weather.

Qualifications

• Must pass drug screen.
• Ability to work weekends, public holidays, and nights.
• Ability to travel to job sites as needed.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must provide own PPE: hard hat, steel‑toe boots, safety glasses, gloves.

Responsibilities

• Offload the truck and gather tools for the day.
• Move the pavement saw to the transverse joint.
• Sweep and clean the area in front of the paver.
• Measure and line out the daily paving area.
• Act as a flagger to direct motorists away from the work zone.
• Transport water to rollers and other equipment.
• Build a launchpad for the paver at the start of the pull.
• Assist the screed operator.
• Shovel material to the end gate.
• Load/unload merchandise between stations and trucks.
• Maintain vehicles and material handling equipment in safe condition.
• Operate manual material handling gear safely.
• Keep the work area clean and organized; assist in waste disposal and recycling.
• Follow supervisor instructions and meet productivity with quality; report hazards promptly.

• Scope of Work:
  • Asphalt laborers assist in the pouring, smoothing and setting of asphalt on roads, pathways, and parking lots. The main role of the asphalt laborer is to look after the mat. This includes raking, sweeping, and lining out the road, as well as working alongside the tractor, mill, paver, and the screed.

• Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Transporting rakes, lutes, shovels, and spray cans to the paver.
  • Moving the pavement saw to the transverse joint.

  • Measuring and lining out the area for the day’s paving.

  • Transporting water to the rollers, power broom, and plate compactor.
  • Building a launchpad for the paver at the beginning of the pull.
  • Assisting the screed operator.
  • Shoveling material out to the end gate.
  • Transport merchandise between receiving stations, warehouse and production areas.
    • Lift and carry merchandises/material as needed.
    • Inspect merchandise upon delivery to identify any damages.
    • Load and unload merchandise to and from trailers.
  • Maintain industry vehicles and material handling equipment in safe and good working condition.
  • Drive industrial vehicles to transfer materials.
    • Operate manual material handling equipment such as hand jacks and wheeled carts safely.
  • Mange house keeping activities when requested.
    • Maintain the work area clean, safe and organized.
    • Assist in waste disposal and recycling activities
    • Cleanup work area and equipment after work is completed.
  • Execute daily work instructions received from Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Work effectively to meet or exceed productivity goals while maintaining high quality standards.
    • Practicesafety procedures in accordance with training and guidelines when working.
    • Comply with company policies and legal guidelines, helping to maintain a safe and orderly work environment
    • Meet quality and performance requirements as outlined by quality assurance and production standards
    • Report safety hazards, quality, and production issues to management immediately
• Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift up to 55 lbs
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, squat, or kneel regularly, as well as climb stairs and ladders to complete tasks.
  • Ability to work outdoors in harsh weather conditions
    • Ability to work in varying hot and cold environments
    • Ability to work in an environments with exposures to dust, dirt and various other debris, metal and paint fumes, gases
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to high, precarious places and outside weather conditions
    • The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock
