Job summary

AEIS seeks an Asphalt Inspector to support expanding infrastructure projects. You will perform field inspections, sampling, and testing to ensure quality, durability, and compliance across site work.

You'll work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and QA/QC Specialists, maintain records, and submit reports quickly. Travel to project sites is required; the role offers growth into QA leads.

Qualifications

  • Alfred State University HMA, NICET Asphalt required; NETTCP paving inspector preferred.
  • 2+ years in construction inspection/testing; OSHA 30 or ability to obtain.
  • Experience operating nuclear density gauges; willing to travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and inspect hot-mix asphalt paving to ensure contract compliance.
  • Use nuclear density gauges to verify in-place asphalt compaction.
  • Extract asphalt cores and prepare for lab analysis.
  • Perform sampling and field testing of asphalt materials.
  • Submit daily inspection reports within 24 hours.
  • Maintain 90%+ completion of safety training; aim for zero incidents.
  • Submit 98% of draft reports within 8 hours; minimal revisions.

We're looking for an Asphalt Inspector to support our expanding portfolio of infrastructure

projects. In this role, you'll play an essential part in ensuring quality, durability, and compliance across field inspections, testing, and project execution.

What You’ll Do
Technical & Field Inspection
  • Observe and inspect hot-mix asphalt (HMA) paving operations to ensure compliance with contract specifications
  • Use nuclear density gauges to verify in-place asphalt compaction and density
  • Extract asphalt pavement cores and prepare them for transport to AEIS's laboratory for further analysis
  • Perform sampling and field testing of asphalt and related paving materials
  • Submit daily inspection reports within <24 hours
  • Maintain 90%+ completion of all assigned safety training
  • Target zero avoidable safety or equipment incidents
  • Submit 98% of draft reports within 8 hours - with minimal revisions
  • Less than 1 serious issue per quarter related to Inspections, Measuring, and Test Equipment due to technician error, lack of maintenance, or lost/damaged equipment
Documentation & Quality Records
  • Maintain accurate inspection records using AEIS digital reporting tools
  • Review and verify technical documents (e.g., WPS/PQR, lab results, etc.)
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and QA/QC Specialists
  • Contribute to lessons-learned discussions and workflow improvements
What We're Looking For
Must Haves
  • Alfred State University HMA. NJSAT HMA, NICET ASPHALT (required)
  • NETTCP Paving Inspector (preferred)
  • Alfred State University HMA Density Inspector (preferred)2+ years of experience in construction inspection/testing
  • Experience operating nuclear density gauges (Troxler or Humbolt)
  • Familiarity with core extraction techniques for asphalt
  • OSHA 30 Construction Safety Training (or ability to obtain)
  • Strong communication and attention to detail
  • Willingness to travel to project sites
Bonus Points
  • NETTCP Asphalt Plant Technician (optional)
  • NJSAT HMA Construction Technologist (optional)
  • Experience with public infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with structural steel construction practices

Salary Range: $37-41/hour

This range is based on national market data and may vary widely by experience and location.
