Job summary

Health Advocates Network, Inc. is hiring an ASL Interpreter for North Charleston, SC. The role involves interpreting classroom instruction, meetings, and school events between ASL and spoken English, ensuring accurate and confidential interpretation in real-time.

The position requires an Associate degree or interpreter training, ASL fluency, and an EIPA score of ~3.2–3.5 or higher. Educational settings experience is preferred, with benefits including health and retirement plans.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or completion of a sign language interpreter training program.
• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English.
• EIPA score ~3.2–3.5 or higher.
• Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Interpret classroom instruction, activities, and discussions between ASL and spoken English.
• Provide interpretation during classes, meetings, conferences, assemblies, and school events.
• Facilitate effective communication among students, teachers, peers, and staff.
• Review lesson plans and materials to ensure accurate interpretation.
• Adapt interpreting techniques to students’ communication needs and abilities.
• Support IEP implementation and participate in IEP meetings.
• Support students’ academic, vocabulary, social, and communication development.
• Accurately convey message content, tone, and intent while maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.
• Collaborate with teachers and special education teams to promote student progress and an inclusive learning environment.
