Job summary

Loyola Medicine, a Trinity Health system, is seeking an ASL Interpreter to support Deaf and hard-of-hearing patients across medical, mental health, and spiritual care settings. This part-time, day-shift role emphasizes clear communication and accessibility.

minimum education includes NAD-RID/NIC certifications, with preferred associate degree or higher. Licensing in Illinois and experience in medical interpreting are highly valued.

Qualifications

• NAD-RID Certificate or NIC/NAD-RID Certification required.
• Medical interpreting experience preferred.
• Illinois requires Advanced level ASL license to practice in health care.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-person and Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) services in ASL and English.
• Support Deaf/hard-of-hearing patients in understanding medical instructions and forms.
• Interpret for Loyola employees who are Deaf or hard of hearing.
• Maintain detailed records of interpreting sessions and patient outreach.
• Advocate for communication access and assess interpreting needs across care settings.
• Lead training on Deaf culture and VRI use.

What you’ll do:

The ASL Interpreter provides vital interpreting services to ensure effective communication between Deaf and hard-of-hearing patients, their families, and Loyola’s

What you’ll need for this job:

Minimum Education:
Required: High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education
Preferred: Associate degree OR equivalent training acquired via work experience or education
Specify Degree(s): NAD-RID Certificate of Interpretation and Transliteration, or NAD-RID National Interpreter Certification
Minimum Experience:
Required: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience
Preferred: 3-5 years of previous job-related experience
Details: Must have experience in medical interpreting.
Licensure/Certifications:
Required: ASL (American Sign Language) License - Advanced Level
National Interpreter Certification (NIC) or equivalent
Preferred: ASL (American Sign Language) License - Masters Level
Other: Illinois requires ASL Interpreters to achieve a minimum of an Advanced level license to practice in health care; Master level candidates are strongly preferred.

Pay Rate

$43.05

Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
