Job summary

Avondale seeks an ASD Classroom Teacher at Auburn Elementary for the 2026-2027 school year. The role focuses on direct instruction for ASD students, collaboration with staff, and delivering engaging lessons to support growth.

Applicants should hold a Michigan Certification with ASD endorsement preferred or be in a planned program, with at least two years in a special education ASD setting. Lifting up to 40 pounds and strong data/IEP skills are required.

Qualifications

  • Current Michigan Certification with ASD endorsement preferred or enrolled in a planned program.
  • Minimum of two years of successful special education experience with ASD classrooms.
  • Knowledge of modification and accommodations for general education curriculum.
  • Demonstrates understanding of ASD and how ASD instruction should be delivered.
  • Proficient in developing Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance statements, IEP goals/objects, FBA and Behavior Plans.
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention certification
  • Proficient in facilitating, writing, and implementing IEPs and Behavior Plans
  • Ability to meet physical demands including lifting up to 40 pounds
  • High energy level with the ability to respond quickly to various situations
  • Excellent communication and knowledge of growth, learning theories, and ed rules

Responsibilities

  • Participate in development of the special education philosophy of service and delivery.
  • Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance is an essential function of the job.
  • Collect accurate ongoing data on children's programming.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with staff.
  • Provide direct instruction for ASD-certified students in academic, communication, and social skills.
  • Provide direction to classroom paraeducators.
  • Assess students' progress and communicate with parents.
  • Remain compliant with state and federal rules for Special Education.
  • Proficient in facilitating, writing, and implementing IEPs and Behavior Plans.
  • Develop IEPs with goals that provide educational benefit and use assistive technology.
  • Assist students with basic needs, including feeding and toileting.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Administrator.
  • Promote parent and school community education in autism and related topics.
  • Encourage student philanthropy for those affected by autism.

WHAT WE NEED:

The individual selected for this assignment will be the one who offers the best combination of qualities in accordance with the following standards and requirements:

  • Current Michigan Certification with appropriate endorsement forAutismSpectrumDisorder preferred or enrolled in a planned program
  • A minimum of two years of successful special education or support service working withASDclassrooms.
  • Knowledge of the techniques of modification and accommodations as they relate to the general education curriculum.
  • Demonstrates a full understanding ofASDand howASDinstruction should be delivered.
  • Proficiency in developing Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance statements, IEP goals and objectives, Functional Behavior Assessments, and Behavior Plans
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention certification
  • Proficient in facilitation, writing, and implementing IEPs and Behavior Plans
  • Ability to meet physical demands, including, but not limited to: run, kneel, sit on the floor and rise from the floor, and ability to lift 40 pounds.
  • Should have a high energy level and the ability to respond quickly to a variety of situations.
  • Evidence of the candidate's ability demonstrated through:
    • Excellent communication skills;
    • A conceptual understanding of human growth and development, learning theories andteachingmethodologies, special education service delivery models, and state and federal rules related to special education.
