Job summary

This role requires a high school diploma, state board registration within 30 days of hire, and 6 months to 1 year of experience; you must be able to work days, evenings, and third shifts.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; state Pharmacy Board registration within 30 days.
  • Completion of a formal pharmacy tech program is preferred.
  • Preferred experience 6 months to 1 year as a pharmacy technician.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in medication preparation per departmental protocols.
  • Maintain and replenish inventories including crash carts and specialty items.
  • Provide customer service via telephone triage and coordination with healthcare team.
  • Process medication requests and intervention messages.
  • Refill and deliver unit dose carts, pyxis batches, IV admixtures, and bulk stock promptly.
  • Manage narcotics and stock deliveries to prevent delays in patient care.
  • Operate automated dispensing cabinets (ADC) and other automation systems.
  • Perform sterile and non-sterile compounding after training.
  • Conduct nursing unit inspections and surveillance to eliminate expired medications.
  • Assist in precepting and training new technicians and students.

Job description

This role supports pharmacy operations under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, assisting with medication preparation and various pharmacy department activities to ensure quality patient care. The technician will follow established procedures and guidelines to perform duties efficiently and accurately.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in medication preparation including selecting, counting, compounding, reconstituting, packaging, and labeling according to departmental protocols.
  • Maintain and replenish medication and supply inventories, including emergency crash carts and specialty floor stock items.
  • Provide excellent customer service through competent telephone triage and professional interaction with healthcare team members.
  • Process medication requests and intervention messages following departmental procedures.
  • Refill and deliver unit dose cart fills, pyxis batches, parenteral TPNs, IV admixtures, and bulk stock items promptly to appropriate patient care areas.
  • Manage narcotics and stock deliveries to prevent delays in patient care.
  • Operate and troubleshoot automated dispensing cabinets (ADC) and other pharmacy automation systems.
  • Perform sterile and non-sterile compounding after training, adhering to all safety and procedural guidelines.
  • Conduct nursing unit inspections and participate in surveillance programs to eliminate expired medications.
  • Assist in precepting and training new pharmacy technicians and students.
Education

High school diploma or equivalent required. Registration with the state Board of Pharmacy is required within 30 days of hire. Completion of a formal or Board-approved pharmacy technician program is preferred.

Experience

Preferred experience ranges from six months to one year as a pharmacy technician.
