Qualifications

Job description

Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region, where your skills as an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician will directly support patient care and medication safety. This role involves delivering medication orders to nursing units, restocking automated dispensing cabinets, troubleshooting technical issues, and compounding both sterile and non-sterile preparations following USP standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Respond promptly to medication and information requests from hospital staff.
  • Utilize pharmacy software and automation systems efficiently, including EPIC.
  • Perform pharmacy calculations and safety checks such as barcode scanning and visual inspections.
  • Prepare compounded sterile and non-sterile products accurately, adhering to USP 795, 797, and 800 guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness and proper documentation in the IV room and pharmacy areas.
  • Assist in training new technicians and pharmacists as appropriate.
  • Participate in pharmacy and hospital improvement initiatives and inspections.
  • Handle hazardous medications safely using closed‑system transfer devices.
Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience

One year of pharmacy experience is preferred but not mandatory.

Certification and Licensing

Applicants must register or apply for Pharmacy Technician registration prior to starting. Certification as a Pharmacy Technician is required within one year of employment.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This position requires considerable mental focus, standing and walking up stairs for approximately 75% of the shift, light lifting up to 25 pounds, and fine motor skills for handling small vials, syringes, and needles.

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in the pharmacy with frequent visits to patient care units. Expect exposure to refrigeration units, automation equipment, printers, telephones, IV room noise, pressure barriers, and cleaning chemicals.
