Overview

The ASC Staff RN provides direct nursing care to patients by performing pre‑operative assessment and preparing patients for surgery in accordance with facility and organizational policies, meeting the standards of professional nursing practice, as well as intraoperative care and post‑operative care. This person is accountable for using experience and judgement to plan appropriate care for patients, consistently remains calm and applies judgement during stressful situations, always putting patient needs first.

Responsibilities
  • Patient focus, compassion, innovation, integrity and fiscal responsibility.
  • Effectively utilizes the nursing process in caring for patients.
  • Maintains working knowledge of techniques and principles of nursing care to ensure complete and competent care of patients.
  • EHR documentation is clear, concise and complete.
  • Collaboration with patient/family and members of the healthcare team.
  • Acts as a patient advocate with others.
  • Complies with all safety and infection control standards/policies.
  • Complies with all surgery center policies and procedures.
  • Follows all nursing standards and protocols.
  • Assures patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Exhibits flexibility in areas of assignment.
  • Follows procedures and practices related to pain management assessment and identification of abuse and neglect.
  • Follows all OSHA Safety, Fire and Emergency Preparedness guidelines.
  • Performs other functions as requested by the Nurse Manager, including stocking and maintaining adequate supply levels, end‑of‑day narcotic counts and patient chart reviews.
  • Collaborates with physicians on orders and reviews lab values, EKGs and X‑ray reports.
  • Documents care/charges given to patient.
  • Provides prescribed medications and other pharmaceutical products in accordance with physician orders.
  • Remains prepared for emergency situations, utilizing correct emergency procedures and supplies.
  • Administers medication and performs treatments to assigned patients.
  • Participates in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment.
  • Performs job duties competently and in a timely manner.
  • Adjusts work assignments and personal schedule according to patient load and staffing needs.
  • Attends all mandatory in‑services.
  • Maintains current knowledge of skills necessary to provide nursing care to patients of all ages and levels of growth and development.
Qualifications

  • Uses problem‑solving techniques in resolution of patient care issues.
  • Acts as a patient advocate.
Physical Demands

Prolonged standing/walking; assisting with lifting and moving patients and supplies; reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching.

Working Conditions
  • Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens, disease, infections.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and radiation from radiology equipment.
