Job summary

PURPOSE

The Peri-Operative (OR) Registered Nurse provides nursing care to patients in compliance with, but not limited to, recognized Standards of Practice and State Practice Act Standards, and organization protocols, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Supervises and directs patient care in a single operating room. Carries out all duties while maintaining compliance and confidentiality and promoting the mission and philosophy of the organization.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for all activities associated with the delivery of quality nursing practices and duties assigned to this role.
  • Assess patient and family needs in order to provide quality care to assigned patients.
  • Organizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management.
  • Considers cost containment by using supplies economically and in effective turnover time.
  • Prepares the operating room according to requirements of patient/procedure to be performed.
  • Implements plan of care safely and effectively and provides safe environment, including, but not limited to:
  • Positioning patient safely, padding bony prominences and ensuring respiratory and circulatory protection.
  • Ensuring correct prepping and draping procedures.
  • Conducting “time out” process prior to incision to ensure correct patient, correct procedures and correct surgical site.
  • Ensures asepsis during all procedures. Opens and presents sterile items to sterile field aseptically; ensures supplies are not expired.
  • Accounts for all sponges, needles, sharps, during and after the procedures and documents appropriately.
  • Promotes positive communication with all team members.
  • Anticipates needs of surgical team and assists anesthesia personnel by supporting patient during administration of anesthesia.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, center/service safely, and specific job-related hazards.
  • Follows the center exposure control plans for blood borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the center, as defined in the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Adheres to all company policies, including but not limited to OSHA, HIPAA, compliance, and Code of Conduct.
  • Regular and dependable attendance.
  • Follows the core competencies set forth by the Company, which are available for review on ARC SharePoint.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs selected duties as delegated by the DON or others in authority.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Required

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Two (2) or more years RN experience.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • ASC experience.

Certificate/License

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Texas required.
  • Current AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card and current AHA approved Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card required.
  • Current AHA approved Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card preferred.
  • Required to maintain a current registered nursing license and CPR certifications during employment.

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday. This position would travel between the North and South Surgery Center. Additional compensation for travel.
