Job summary

Surgicare of Hawaii seeks an ASC Patient Access Representative to greet patients, manage registrations, verify insurance, collect payments, and issue receipts in a fast-paced ambulatory setting.

Under the Assistant Administrator, you’ll prepare charts, explain financial policies, and ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations while delivering excellent customer service. High school diploma and basic clerical/EHR skills required. On-site position.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of clerical experience in a medical office or healthcare setting.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Basic computer and data entry skills.
  • Familiarity with medical records and healthcare office processes.
  • Preferred: 2 years' experience in a medical office, ASC or healthcare setting; EHR experience; patient registration.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and visitors, checks patients in and out of the ASC, and monitors patient flow to support customer service standards.
  • Registers patients by verifying demographic, identification, insurance, and account information; updates registration and EHR systems.
  • Explains registration, consent, financial, and facility-required forms and obtains signatures.
  • Collects, posts, and reconciles patient co-payments, deductibles, and balances due, and issues receipts.
  • Verifies patient identification and insurance information to support accurate authorization, registration, and billing.
  • Prepares patient charts and supporting documentation, ensuring records are complete and properly filed.
  • Coordinates pre-operative registration activities, required labs, and communication with physician offices.
  • Answers, screens, routes, and responds to telephone calls professionally.
  • Processes subpoenas, court orders, and requests for patient information per policies and regulations.
  • Copies, scans, files, retrieves, stores, and audits medical records for completeness and compliance.
  • Maintains positive patient experience and professional relationships with patients and staff.
  • Maintains effective communication and teamwork across departments.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Assistant Administrator, greets and checks patients in and out of the ambulatory surgery center (ASC), manages telephone communications, prepares patient charts, explains financial policies, collects patient payments, and issues receipts. Verifies patient demographic, insurance, and authorization information in registration and electronic health record (EHR) systems. Assists with the maintenance, filing, retrieval, auditing, and storage of medical records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accreditation standards and applicable regulations. Maintains exceptional customer service and performs duties in accordance with established performance standards.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education / Training / Licensure / Certifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum Experience
  • One (1) year of clerical experience in a medical office, clinic or other healthcare setting.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Two (2) years of experience in a medical office, clinic, ambulatory surgery center, or other healthcare setting.
  • One (1) year of experience in patient registration, scheduling, medical records, or patient access functions.
  • Experience using electronic health record (EHR) and patient registration systems.
  • Experience verifying insurance eligibility, obtaining authorizations, or collecting patient payments.
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service and promote positive patient relations.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, logs, and filing systems.
