Job summary

A renowned environmental consulting firm is looking for qualified Archaeological Field Technicians to conduct archaeological surveys, excavations, and monitoring for construction projects across several states, including Nevada, Utah, and Texas. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology and relevant experience. The position requires effective communication and teamwork in outdoor environments, along with physical capability for fieldwork. Compensation

$22.00-$30.00 hourly; final compensation based on experience, education, certifications, and skills. Must pass a pre‑employment drug test and background check before beginning employment.

Position Overview

We are seeking qualified, experienced Archaeological Field Technicians/Monitors for construction projects in Nevada and Utah. There may also be opportunities to work on projects outside these states, primarily in California, Colorado, Texas, and Wyoming.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Conduct archaeological survey, excavation, and monitoring.
• During monitoring, communicate on site with construction and Native American personnel and maintain detailed daily logs describing activities, communications, and future plans.
• During survey work, communicate effectively with the crew leader to verify understanding of instructions or site‑specific information; perform scientific photography, measurement, artifact identification, and recordation of resources.
• During excavation, work well with a team to ensure clear communication and identify buried resources, documenting them accurately while working collaboratively.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology.
• Completed an accredited field school certification.
• Previous archaeological survey experience within Arizona and experience recording a variety of site and isolate types in this region.
• Ability to safely operate a 4‑wheel drive vehicle.
• Physical ability to carry equipment and supplies up to 40 lbs. and walk or hike for long hours during fieldwork.
• Willingness to travel to a project location for several consecutive days.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and have active personal automobile liability insurance by the first day of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous archaeological survey experience in California, the Desert West, the Pacific Northwest, and/or the Mid‑Atlantic, with experience recording a variety of site and isolate types in the respective region(s).
• Experience with a wide range of archaeological field methods, including pedestrian survey, testing/evaluation, and monitoring.
• Understanding and willingness to safely accommodate difficult weather and other environmental conditions and challenges.
• Ability to operate field equipment, including GPS, cameras, and tablets.
• Knowledge of and experience using ESRI Collector and/or Field Maps.

Working Conditions

• Job operates in an outdoor or office‑based environment, using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers.
• Outdoor activity may involve walking or trekking in uneven terrain over long distances in extreme weather conditions for extended periods.
• Project site visits are required, outdoors, which may include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, and moving vehicles and equipment.

Physical Requirements

• Work on a computer, sit or stand for long periods in an office or remote office setting.
• Capable of bending, squatting, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 35 lbs. unassisted; 50 lbs. as a team lift (two or more employees).
• Attend meetings, both in person and virtually, and speak on the phone with peers and clients.
• Specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Outdoor activity may involve walking or trekking in uneven terrain over long distances in extreme weather conditions for extended periods.
