Job summary

Universal Orlando Resort seeks skilled fabricators to fabricate, repair, and finish animated figures, ride vehicles, and props. The role involves mold making, silicone work, sculpting, and painting with airbrush and faux finishes from concept through installation.

The work includes tracing materials, documenting processes, and maintaining safe work areas. A high school diploma is required; advanced degrees are preferred. This is a full-time on-site position in Orlando.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Fabricate, troubleshoot, and repair skins, coverings, and support structures for animated figures.
• Repair and fabricate show props from planning to finishing/painting.
• Maintain and install fasteners, attachments, and soft goods for figures, sets, and props.
• Document projects and processes using SOPs, planning sheets, and forms; use Maximo for tracking.
• Repair and fabricate costumes and figure coverings and related set soft goods.
• Follow Environmental, Health & Safety policies and participate in safety activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY

Fabricate, repair, and finish the aesthetic portions of animatronic figures, ride vehicles, props and other elements of Universal Parks and Resorts. Responsibilities include mold making, working with silicone, sculpting, fiberglass repair, carpentry, casting, mechanical skills assembling and disassembling figure shells, sewing, pattern making, wig care, pigmentation and painting including color matching, scenic applications, faux finishes, automotive spray, and airbrushing techniques.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Fabricate, troubleshoot, and repair flexible and non-flexible skins, coverings (including wigs, fur, and feathers), and support structures for animated figures. This includes planning/preparing for work, cleaning, repairing, painting of silicone and fiberglass skins and shells, cleaning of work area, and documenting work. Mends or replaces costumes and other figure coverings. Painting processes to include properly assessing, mixing, and applying airbrush and/or faux paint techniques, automotive paint applications, as well as wet/dry brush and sponge painting. Painting techniques to include brushing, rolling, blending, spraying, and faux finishing techniques.
• Repair and Fabricate show props to include planning/preparing for work, cleaning, molding, casting, construction, finishing/painting, cleaning of work area, and documenting work.
• Maintain, fabricate, and install/embed fasteners and attachments for animated figures, sets, and props. This can include buckles, straps, zippers, snaps, stand-offs, tabs, and various inserts.
• Properly document and update projects and processes through SOP's, Project Planning Sheets, DTI's, Material Requests Forms and other documentation standards as required. Properly track and record required information through Maximo.
• Repair and Fabricate costumes and other figure coverings and fabricate/repair show set soft goods (backdrops, curtains, scrims).
• Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

• High school degree or GED is required.
• Associate's degree is preferred - Visual Arts, Scenery Production, Technical Theater, Costuming or equivalent.
• Bachelor's degree is preferred - Visual Arts, Scenery Production, Technical Theater, Costuming or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE

• 3+ years set/prop fabrication and maintenance with the finishing aspect of animated figures is required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• A valid Florida State Driver's License is required to operate company vehicles.
