Job summary

KLA is seeking a machine learning-focused engineer in Milpitas to design, develop, and diagnose complex ML/DL algorithms for advanced semiconductor imaging and inspection systems. You will prototype new image processing ideas and deploy them within products, collaborating with software and hardware teams.

The role requires hands-on ML experience, knowledge of TensorFlow or PyTorch, and the ability to write and modify model architectures and loss functions.

Group/Division The Semiconductor Products and Customers (Semi PC) business unit designs, builds and sells KLA’s product portfolio to help chip manufacturers meet high-quality standards for technologies like AI, data centers, automotive and electronic devices. Our inspection, metrology, and analytics systems detect and monitor defects across logic and memory chips, specialty semiconductors, wafers, reticles, advanced packaging, process equipment and materials. We also develop technologies for specialty processes, IC substrates, and PCB manufacturing, including etch and deposition, component inspection, and imaging and analytics. The LS-SWIFT division delivers high-throughput patterned wafer inspection systems that support advanced semiconductor manufacturing. Its mission is to provide industry‑leading defect detection with optimal cost of ownership across a wide range of applications. LS systems enable precise, cost‑effective inspection for cutting‑edge process nodes, while SWIFT systems offer comprehensive macro inspection of all wafer surfaces—capabilities that are especially critical for advanced packaging, as well as logic, memory, and automotive applications.

What You’ll Do

• Designing, developing, modifying and diagnosing complex ML and DL algorithms
• Ability to invent, prototype and deploy new image processing algorithms and ideas
• Hands‑on experience in object‑oriented and functional programming
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

Qualifications

• Strong background in one or more of the following areas: machine Learning, deep learning, computer vision, image processing
• Familiar with one of common deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch
• Hands‑on experience with training ML/AI models that have been deployed in a product
• Ability to write model architectures from scratch, modify loss functions
• Minimum Qualifications PhD Level Degree and 0 years work experience: Master's Level Degree and 2 years related work experience; Bachelor's Level Degree and related work experience of 4 years

Total Rewards

Base Pay Range: $140,500.00 - $238,900.00 Annually
