Job summary

Midtown Community School in Kansas City, Missouri is seeking an Art Teacher to inspire creativity and critical thinking in a diverse student body. The role focuses on integrating Missouri Learning Standards with interdisciplinary projects and social-emotional learning.

The ideal candidate holds a Missouri Art Teacher Certification (master’s preferred), brings experience with diverse learners, communicates effectively with families, and participates in school-wide initiatives and after-school

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MO Art Teacher Certification required.
  • Experience with diverse populations including English language learners and students with special needs.
  • Experience organizing and managing a student-centered learning environment with age-appropriate, culturally-responsive practices.
  • Ability to create a joyful, caring classroom and support conflict resolution, skill-building, and social change.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; collaborate with colleagues to build a strong school community.
  • Willingness to take on additional responsibilities with potential stipends.
  • Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and a can-do attitude.
  • Spanish fluency is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop curriculum, units, and lessons aligned with Missouri standards and cross-disciplinary learning.
  • Complete and submit lesson plans in a timely manner.
  • Maintain an active, joyous Art learning culture and support social-emotional learning.
  • Observe, reflect, and assess student growth, and contribute to program improvement.
  • Contribute to fall and spring progress reports and conference scheduling changes.
  • Support school programming and participate in professional development.
  • Maintain professional communication with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Uphold professionalism and meet deadlines.
