  • Plan and deliver visual arts instruction aligned with South Carolina academic standards and District expectations.
  • Teach students a variety of art concepts, techniques, media, and processes, including drawing, painting, design, sculpture, and other appropriate forms of visual art.
  • Develop lesson plans that encourage creativity, problem-solving, self-expression, and appreciation of art.
  • Provide instruction appropriate to the age, ability, and individual needs of students.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, organized, and positive classroom environment.
  • Teach students the proper and safe use of art materials, supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of student performance.
  • Provide appropriate feedback to students and communicate student progress to parents/guardians as needed.
  • Display student artwork throughout the school and assist with art exhibits, programs, competitions, or special events when appropriate.
  • Maintain an appropriate inventory of art supplies, materials, and equipment and notify administration of needed resources.
  • Maintain classroom procedures that promote responsible use, care, and cleanup of art materials and equipment.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, parent conferences, and other school or District activities as required.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other staff to support schoolwide instructional goals and student learning.

GENERAL SUMMARY
To provide high-quality visual arts instruction that encourages creativity, artistic expression, critical thinking, and an appreciation of the arts while supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned.)


The Art Teacher shall:



  • Plan and deliver visual arts instruction aligned with South Carolina academic standards and District expectations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES


The employee must possess the ability to communicate effectively, organize and manage a classroom, work with students of varying abilities and backgrounds, use appropriate instructional technology, and establish positive working relationships with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, including standing and walking for extended periods; bending, reaching, and lifting classroom materials and supplies; assisting students with art activities; and operating equipment and materials commonly used in an art classroom. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT


190-day certified position. Salary and work year will be established by the Jasper County School District Board of Trustees in accordance with the approved salary schedule.


EVALUATION


Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with Jasper County School District policies, procedures, and applicable South Carolina requirements for certified personnel.
Travel Requirements:
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
