Job summary

ACCEPT Education Collaborative is seeking an Art Teacher for 0.4 FTE to provide direct instruction in unified arts at our Medway locations. The role collaborates with special education teams, therapists, and families to support students’ holistic development.

The ideal candidate holds a Massachusetts Art K-12 license (or education license) with at least 1 year of teaching experience and a compassionate, patient disposition, capable of staying calm under pressure and communicating effectively

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
• Minimum of 1 year experience as an Art Teacher.
• Experience working with children with a wide range of disabilities.
• Valid Massachusetts Teaching license in Art (K-12) and/or education. Licensure subject to change per DESE.

• Master’s Degree in Education or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Plans an art program of study meeting individual needs and abilities of students.
• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity.
• Guides learning toward curriculum goals with clear objectives for lessons and projects.
• Employs appropriate instructional methods and materials to meet objectives.
• Assesses student progress and provides reports as required.
• Collaborates with colleagues, students, and/or parents regularly.
• Supervises teacher assistants/volunteers and participates in staff meetings and development.
• Responds to emails within 48 hours and travels between locations to provide services.

Job Description

Position Summary: To provide direct specialized instruction in unified arts, cultivating skill, creativity, and self-expression, as well as adapted to meet the diverse learning needs, abilities, and challenges of students with disabilities. The teacher is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing an adaptive art curriculum that is engaging, supportive, and accessible to all students. This role is highly collaborative, requiring close partnership with special education teams, therapists, and families to support each student's holistic development.

Qualifications Required

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from an accredited university
• Minimum of 1 year experience as an Art Teacher or relevant role
• Experience working with children with a wide range of disabilities
• Valid Massachusetts Teaching license in Art (K-12) and/or education. Additional content area license is encouraged. Please note that licensure requirements are subjected to change at the discretion of DESE.
• A patient, resilient, resourceful and compassionate personality

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Plans an art therapy program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students
• Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
• Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students
• Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives
• Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required
• Collaborates with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis
• Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom
• Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher assistant(s) and or volunteer(s)/intern(s)
• Attend staff meetings, as necessary
• Participate in staff development programs
• Respond to all email requests within 48 hours
• Travel between all of the collaborative’s locations to provide services

Physical Demands and Work Environment: Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about and may be required to traverse throughout the school building. The employee must also often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and perform physical restraint of a student at times of behavioral escalation. The employee is expected to lift at least 20 lbs (i.e. books, art supplies, etc.). The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools. Occasionally s/he operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). The employee must be able to input information into a computer and as well as read material from a computer monitor as well as handwritten or printed matter with or without visual aids. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members in person and on the telephone. In the classroom, the employee must be able to see and hear on a continuous basis in order to ensure the safety of students as well as speak frequently to provide instruction. On rare occasions, it may be necessary to move quickly/run across even or uneven surfaces. The employee interacts with students, parents, and other staff members. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.

Work Environment: The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise.
