Job summary

PHILLIPS PROGRAMS is seeking a Special Education Art Teacher to deliver art instruction across grade levels at our Annandale, VA location. The role supports students’ academic, behavioral, and vocational development within a private special education day school.

The teacher will lead weekly art instruction for middle and lower school, offer high school credit courses, supervise transitions, and coordinate volunteers and fine arts activities.

Qualifications

• Valid Virginia teaching license in Art Education.
• Experience working with students with emotional and behavioral needs preferred.
• Ability to collaborate with staff and volunteers.

Responsibilities

• Provide art instruction to all classes, including middle, lower, and high school students.
• Teach content-area courses for high school credit.
• Supervise art and work-skills activities and coordinate fine arts events.
• Chairs the Art Committee and coordinates community art opportunities.
• Maintain program budget and report expenditures to supervisor.

Responsibilities include:Provides art instruction to all classes, including middle, lower, and high school studentsTeaches content‑area courses for high school creditProvides weekly art instruction to middle and lower school classesTeaches afternoon work‑skills modules for high school studentsSelects appropriate instructional materials and strategies aligned with curriculum goalsEvaluates students’ academic and behavioral functioning and adjusts instruction as neededImplements individual and group behavior management programsActively supervises students to ensure safety, including hallway transitions, bus, and playground dutyAssists in crises as neededChairs the Art Committee and coordinates fine arts activitiesServes as liaison for community art opportunitiesAssists with coordination of volunteers in art and special activity areasMaintains art and work‑skills equipment, inventory, and suppliesMaintains program budget and reports expenditures to supervisorWhat the Art Teacher brings to the team:Valid Virginia teaching license in Art Education, orValid Virginia Special Education license with demonstrated fine arts experienceExperience working with students with emotional and behavioral needs preferred
