Qualifications

  • Must be well organized and able to handle multiple tasks with little supervision.
  • Early childhood art/background in art and nature subjects preferred.
  • Experience developing children’s art activities/curriculum preferred.
  • Experience interacting with young children, preferably in a classroom environment preferred
  • Understanding of classroom management strategies preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Stay up to date on trends in the field and adjust programming accordingly.
  • Support families in parent education on best practices in the field.
  • Provide quality customer service to all guests.

Job description

Pretend City Children’s Museum is a non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire children and families to learn, grow and become future-ready through the power of play.

In alignment with our objectives and mission, we are currently seeking a mission-driven Art Studio Lead to oversee and facilitate the smooth operation of our company’s Art Studio. This role involves supporting the facilitation and delivery of its programming and activities, providing engaging process art experiences for visitors. The Art Studio Lead is responsible for ensuring that all art activities are grounded in strong child development principles and research and regularly observes and evaluates the programming to maintain its quality.

Essential Functions:
  • Plan, develop, and implement Art Studio process art experiences, regularly rotating projects and materials to keep offerings fresh.
  • Work with the Education Manager and Leads to train and coach Team Members in facilitation of art studio programming
  • Set up, clean up, and maintain Art Studio activities and space, following established best practices for how the space should be maintained by floor staff.
  • Ensure clear communication to appropriate team members of all observations and findings
  • Assist in tracking and maintaining inventory development and adhere to an annual budget
  • Run and facilitate field trips
  • Engage in regular public programming (i.e. story times)
  • Assist in observation and documentation of guest engagement and feedback
  • Stay up to date on current trends in the field, and adjust programming accordingly
  • Support families in parent education on best/most current practices in the field
  • Provide quality support and customer service to all guests
Qualifications:
  • Minimum associate degree and/or 2+ years’ experience in education, early childhood development, or museum studies
  • Ability to speak with ease in front of large & small groups of people
  • Ability to interact with young children and the public with enthusiasm and patience
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with museum staff and volunteers
  • Must be well organized and able to handle multiples tasks at a time with little supervision
  • Early childhood educational background in art, and nature subjects preferred
  • Experience in developing children’s art activities/curriculum preferred
  • Experience interacting with young children, preferably in a classroom environment preferred
  • Understanding of classroom management strategies preferred
  • Demonstration of excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to be on your feet most of the day
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some weeknights
  • Ability to use standard office equipment
  • Ability to identify and solve standard problems and refer more complex problems to supervisory staff
