Penn Medicine is seeking an Arrhythmia Device Monitoring Technician to provide continuous and intermittent cardiac rhythm monitoring, identify arrhythmias, and support physicians, APPs, and clinical staff by accurate interpretation and timely escalation, with documentation in compliance with protocols.

Responsibilities

• Continuously monitor cardiac telemetry, Holter, event, patch, and implantable device transmissions; identify rhythms and classify abnormalities.
• Schedule, apply, document, and bill cardiac monitors; educate patients on monitor use and return procedures.
• Enter and verify patient demographics and clinical information in vendor platforms; document steps in the EMR per standards.
• Retrieve monitoring reports and distribute to physicians for review, interpretation, and signature; communicate results to patients promptly.
• Troubleshoot data capture; ensure HIPAA compliance and patient safety; escalate unresolved issues as needed.
• Collaborate with device clinic staff to ensure continuity of patient care and operational efficiency.

Summary

• The Arrhythmia Device Monitoring Technician is responsible for continuous and intermittent monitoring of cardiac rhythms to identify arrhythmias and other cardiac abnormalities. This role supports physicians, advanced practice providers, ad clinical staff by ensuring accurate rhythm interpretation, timely escalation of critical findings, and thorough documentation in accordance with clinical protocols and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• 1. Continuously monitor cardiac telemetry, Holter, event, patch, and on occasion implantable device transmissions. a. Correctly identify cardiac rhythms b. Recognizes and differentiates atrial, ventricular, and conduction abnormalities in accordance with departmental competency standards. c. Maintain current rhythm interpretation competencies as validated annually.
• 2. Schedule, apply, document, and bill all cardiac monitors. Assist with education related to monitoring equipment when applicable. a. Schedule patients for cardiac monitor application and services with the EMR b. Apply cardiac monitors, including same-day applications when clinically indicated. c. Educate patients on monitor use, wear time, troubleshooting, and return procedures. d. Enter and verify patient demographic and clinical information within vendor monitoring platforms. e. Accurately document all steps of the monitoring process in the EMR in accordance with departmental and regulatory standards. f. Retrieve completed monitoring reports from vendor platforms in a timely manner g. Distribute monitoring reports to the appropriate physician for review, interpretation, and signature. h. Upon provider sign-off, complete billing of cardiac monitors in the EMR in accordance with organizational policies and payer requirements. i. Communicate results to patients in a timely manner.
• 3. Identify, analyze, and interpret cardiac rhythms including atrial fibrillation/ flutter, SVT, VT, pauses, heart blocks, and ectopy. a. Correctly identify cardiac rhythms b. Recognizes and differentiates atrial, ventricular, and conduction abnormalities in accordance with departmental competency standards. c. Maintain current rhythm interpretation competencies as validated annually.
• 4. Communicate significant rhythm changes to physicians and APP’s. Accurately document rhythm findings in the electronic medical record. a. Communicate critical findings to physicians b. Respond to provider inquires within defined service level expectations c. Appropriately prioritizes workload to ensure no missed or delayed alerts.
• 5. Troubleshoot and ensure accurate data capture. Maintain compliance with HIPAA, patient safety standards, and departmental policies a. Informs and escalates unresolved technical issues to monitoring platforms. b. Adheres to patient identification and safety protocols at all times.
• 6. Other a. Collaborates closely with device clinic associates and assists with workload support to ensure continuity of patient care and operational efficiency.
