Job summary

The Security Officer position at Southern Company is responsible for protecting personnel, assets, and interests across the company footprint. This role employs armed security tactics, screenings, and security event monitoring and response.

Candidates must meet the education and certification criteria, be willing to work 6am–6pm or 6pm–6am shifts, and pass safety and fitness prerequisites; age 21+, travel for training may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's/associate degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Training certification reflecting knowledge of industry standards.
• Must be available for shift work, holidays, overtime, inclement weather, and on-site duties.
• Shift hours: 6am - 6pm and 6pm-6am.
• Minimum 3 years law enforcement, military, private or industrial security preferred.
• Law enforcement, military, armed private or armed industrial security experience preferred.
• Must pass psychological test, drug test, firearms evaluation, and Insider Threat Program.
• Must qualify for firearm use and re-qualify annually.
• Must qualify for and obtain a valid state firearm permit and driver’s license.
• Successful annual qualification with all issued firearms.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Knowledge of Software House CCURE and security systems operation is preferred.
• Respond to and monitor security events and ensure proper escalation.
• Coordinate and liaise with Operating Company and Corporate Security groups.
• Ability to travel for training, storm duty, or other security-related needs.
• Maintain professional communication and document actions clearly.
