Job summary

Southern Company is seeking a Security Officer to protect personnel, assets, and interests at its Atlanta footprint, including the Gas HQ at 725 W. Peachtree St. The role involves armed security, screening, and real-time security event monitoring and response.

The position requires experience in security or related fields, certification, and the ability to pass medical and background checks. Shift work and potential travel for training or storm duty are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's/associate degree preferred or equivalent experience
• Training certification reflecting industry standards
• Must be able to work shift, holidays, overtime, and travel for training or storm duty
• Shift hours: 6am-6pm and 6pm-6am
• Armed security experience preferred
• Must pass psychological, drug, firearms tests and Insider Threat Program
• Must qualify for state firearm permit and driver’s license
• Annual firearms re-qualification required
• Must be 21+ years old

Responsibilities

• Protect personnel, assets, and company interests
• Operate and respond to security event monitoring systems
• Coordinate with Security groups across operating units
• Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
• Ability to respond to technical inquiries regarding access systems
• Direct and manage vehicle and pedestrian traffic as needed
• Wear and maintain personal protection equipment
• Travel for training or storm duty as required
