Job summary

Job Overview

This job provides security for patients, guests and employees as assigned, enforces company policies and procedures, and performs assigned duties that ensure the security of patients, guests, and employees in a courteous and professional manner.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent.

Work Experience

1 year of experience in Security, law enforcement, or military.

Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
  • Valid driver’s license in the state of practice and clean DMV report.
  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI), and firearms training.
  • International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) certification to be obtained within 90 days of promotion/hire.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the FTO Program within the first 60 days of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals.
  • This position is considered Team A Essential Personnel and must report for duty in the event of a disaster.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Ability to continuously walk the company property including outside areas, interior areas, using stairwells in an 11‑floor structure.
Job Duties
  • Enforces all company safety and security rules, regulations, and policies on company property.
  • Conducts routine inspections of on‑site and off‑site locations of the company.
  • Investigates accidents and other incidents which are assigned and reports all occurrences in a timely manner.
  • Performs opening/lockdown of all buildings as approved by Administration and performs other safety and security related duties as assigned.
  • Participates in emergency response and related preparedness drills.
  • Maintains required annual certifications and completes training requirements within required time periods.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respecting privacy, methods of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services, requesting permissions, and communication style.
  • Other related duties as required.

Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The demands include walking or standing to a significant degree, pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls, and maintaining a production rate pace.

Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue, but exposure or potential for exposure may occur.

The incumbent works with patients who have known or suspected communicable diseases and may enter isolation rooms. There may be an occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases.

Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
