Summary

Bering Straits Professional Services, LLC (BSPS), a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation, is currently seeking a qualified Armed Security Guard for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Cincinnati, OH. The Armed Security Guard enforces regulations designed to prevent breaches of security, exercises judgment and uses discretion in responding to incidents, providing access and egress services, surveillance, or reporting situations to appropriate authorities. Duties require specialized training in security methods and techniques, physical fitness, and proficiency with firearms or other weapons.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct guard tours by swiping government-issued ID badges at designated stations, making routine checks of various facility areas, and documenting deviations.
  • Monitor and respond to fire alarms, security systems, CCTV, and participate in emergency evacuations.
  • Ensure safety and protection of personnel and property against various threats including fire, trespass, theft, terrorism, and sabotage.
  • Protect government property, materials, and data against loss or unauthorized access.
  • Report hazardous conditions and maintenance needs.
  • Maintain logs and reports of activities, incidents, and security situations.
  • Respond to emergencies, including acts of terrorism, bomb threats, internal disturbances, and criminal acts.
  • Notify appropriate authorities during emergencies and secure premises by checking doors, windows, safes, and alarms.
  • Enforce building regulations and review applicable federal regulations.
  • Identify and report fire hazards or equipment malfunctions.
  • Follow procedures for lost and found property and assist in property recovery.
  • Familiarize with building areas for quick response to routine and emergency calls.
  • Participate in quarterly emergency response exercises and document outcomes.
  • Operate elevators and emergency evacuation equipment.
  • Issue ID badges and manage visitor records, operate security screening equipment.
  • Assist with traffic control and conduct patrols, including motorized and foot patrols responding to alarms and incidents.
  • Implement enhanced access control in sensitive areas.

Qualifications - Experience, Education, and Certification

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications including being at least 21 years old, holding a high school diploma or G.E.D., U.S. citizenship, and possessing a valid security guard license for the state. Additional requirements include passing background checks, drug screening, physical fitness tests, and training certifications such as First Aid/CPR/AED and firearms qualification. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency with computer applications and be capable of understanding and communicating security procedures effectively.

Physical and Other Requirements

Applicants must meet physical fitness standards, including passing the Physical Efficiency Battery (PEB), and maintain medical surveillance requirements. The role involves exposure to various environmental conditions and requires alertness and readiness to respond to emergencies.

Work Environment

The position involves exposure to weather, long periods of standing or walking, and working in emergency situations or office environments.
