Job summary

Garnet Health Medical Center in Catskills is seeking an Armed Security Officer to safeguard patients, visitors, employees and volunteers on-site. You will enforce security policies and procedures and support a safe hospital environment.

Minimum qualifications include an Associates Degree or five years of security experience, NYS Armed Security Guard Registry license with full carry, NYS driver’s license, BLS certification, and crisis training within 3 months of hire.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, Security or related field; or five years of direct security experience.
• Active shooter response training preferred.
• Licensed and Registered with NY Armed Security Guard Registry; NYS firearms license; valid driver’s license; BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Ensure daily safety of the hospital community and facilities.
• Enforce Garnet Health Security policies and procedures.
• Potentially provide supervision to Security Officers as directed by leadership.
• Safeguard personnel, equipment, information and documents; prevent unauthorized access and theft.

Education

Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, Security or related field

Five years of direct Law Enforcement/Security experience

Licensed and Registered with the Armed Security Guard Registry of New York State

NYS Unrestricted (full carry) firearm license

Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY: The Armed Security Officer will perform all necessary functions to ensure the daily safety of the Garnet Health Medical Center hospital community; including all Garnet Health Medical Center facilities, but not limited to, all patients, visitors, employees and volunteers. They will be responsible to enforce all established Garnet Health Medical Center and Security Department specific policies and procedures as to the Medical Centers protection program which includes physical and procedural security designed to safeguard personnel, prevent unauthorized access to equipment, facilities, materials, information, and documents, and to prevent theft and damage of same. At the direction of leadership may provide supervision to Security Officers.

The compensation range for the role is $25.00 -$30.00 hourly.

Garnet Health System provides a compensation range to comply with the New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The range for the role is $25.00 -$30.00 hourly. The range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits. When determining a team member’s compensation and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity)

Qualifications

Minimum Education: Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, Security or related field required OR direct five (5) years of direct Law Enforcement/Security experience within a position of responsible charge. Active shooter response training course preferred.

Minimum Experience: Law Enforcement/Security experience required

Required Certification/Registration: Licensed and Registered with the Armed Security Guard Registry of New York State required. Valid NYS Unrestricted (full carry) firearm license required. Valid NYS Driver’s license required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Must attend hospital crisis training program within 3 months of hire or transfer and annually thereafter.

Physical Requirements: Light to heavy duty based on job requirements and emergency situations. May require physical restraint of patients, visitors, and other as necessary. May require armed confrontations. Maintains licensure and proficiency in the use of all assigned protective equipment, restraint devices and firearms.

Working Conditions:

Environmental Demands and Exposure to Hazards: Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated or ventilated facility. No routine exposure to hazards.

Physical Demands: Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift 10 lbs.

Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
