Data Operations personnel digitally score games at MLB ballparks, providing data for MLB.com apps, real-time highlights, and partner use.

This is a seasonal, on-site role requiring attendance at games, with training prior to solo work.

Qualifications

  • Exceptional knowledge of baseball and how to score a game.
  • Strong computer proficiency and ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Knowledge and use of Slack chat software.
  • Network connection management experience (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, MAC address).
  • Previous experience with a professional or college sports team preferred.
  • Regular availability to attend games in-person as required by the schedule.
  • Team player with ability to learn from mistakes and work with staff.

Responsibilities

  • Be available to work select Arizona Fall League mid-day and night games for training purposes.
  • Be available to work during Arizona Cactus League mid-day games in late-February and March.
  • Enter results of every pitch and game event using our scoring software.
  • Work with game-night staff via Slack to ensure data accuracy.
  • Enter post-game information and validate stats against the box score.
  • Correspond via email, Slack, voice call and text to coordinate coverage.
  • Perform other game-day responsibilities as determined by supervisors.

Job description

Major League Baseball is seeking Data Operations seasonal personnel to train during the Arizona Fall League in preparation for Cactus League Spring Training positions in the Phoenix, AZ area.

MLB Data Operations personnel are responsible for digitally scoring games from the MLB ballparks, which provides the data used in the live content applications on MLB.com, including At-Bat, Gameday and MLB.TV, real-time highlights and text alerts, and by our business partners. This is a perfect part-time job for a responsible, computer-savvy person who happens to be a big baseball fan.

_ This is a seasonal role that requires regular onsite attendance at the ballpark. MLB does not provide any form of relocation assistance and you will be responsible for your transportation needs. Please apply for_positions in the market where you are currently located.

Responsibilities
  • Be available to work select Arizona Fall League mid-day and night games in October and November for training purposes.
  • Be available to work during the Arizona Cactus League mid-day games in late-February and March.
  • During the game, enter the results of every pitch and game event (plays, substitutions, etc.) using our proprietary software and coding language
  • Work closely with our game-night support staff (via Slack) to ensure proper scoring of all game events and accuracy of data
  • After the game, enter all post-game information and validate all stats and data in our scoring software against the box score provided by the Official Scorer.
  • Routine day-to-day correspondence via email, Slack, voice call and/or text message, to keep current with coverage schedules and other scheduled assignments.
  • Other game-day responsibilities during Spring Training, the regular season and/or Postseason as determined by Data Operations supervisor(s).
Qualifications and Skills
  • Exceptional (and demonstrable) knowledge of baseball and how to score a baseball game
  • Strong computer proficiency (Windows OS, Windows-based software and Chrome browser) and the ability to quickly learn and operate new software
  • Knowledge and use of Slack chat software
  • Network connection management (Ethernet, Wifi enabling/Disabling; test MAC Address)
  • Previous experience (including pressbox exposure) with a professional or college sports team, preferably baseball, is preferred.
  • Regular availability to attend games in-person as required by the schedule: weekdays, nights and weekends
  • A “team player” with a great attitude, including but not limited to a willingness to make and learn from mistakes and the ability to work closely and cooperatively (and take direction from) our game-night staff
Pay Range: $25.00 per hour

The actual offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your work experience, education, skills, and any other factors MLB considers relevant to the hiring decision.

There is a correspondence training program before working any games solo in the ballpark.
