Job summary

USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is seeking an Area Director-level veterinarian to oversee Veterinary Services Field Operations. The role directs federal and cooperative programs, coordinating with internal staff and external partners to protect animal health across the district.

The position requires advanced veterinary credentials and experience in program management, emergency response planning, and stakeholder communication.

Qualifications

• GS-13 requires one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level in veterinary program practices.
• Experience coordinating work with internal staff and other agencies.
• Experience communicating technical information to stakeholders including industry, federal and state agencies, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with District Management Team to implement activities district-wide.
• Assist in enforcing Federal regulations as in 9 CFR.
• Support District Director in combating foreign animal disease incursions and outbreaks.
• Develop cooperative relationships with state officials, industry, academics, and veterinarians.
• Assist in implementing new disease control techniques with cooperative efforts across livestock industries.
