Job summary

Manchester Boys Club Inc. seeks staff to support the Program Director in delivering daily, age-appropriate activities at Union Street Clubhouse, Jewett Street School, Highland Goffe Falls School, and Jordan Singer Youth Enrichment Center.

You will help make members feel welcome and engaged while enforcing Club rules. The role requires no prior experience, is open to individuals 15+, and includes training and staff meetings.

Qualifications

• No prior work experience required.
• Must be at least 15 years of age or older.
• Ability to pass criminal background screening.
• Ability to mentor and help others learn.
• Consistently demonstrate strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work with youth, parents, and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Run age-appropriate activities daily as discussed and agreed upon with the Program Director.
• Serve as a positive role model to inspire members to realize their full potential.
• Interact with members to ensure they feel welcome and part of the group.
• Encourage members to participate in activities and programs planned for the day.
• Ensure members act and participate safely and follow Club rules.
• Advise the Program Director if there are safety concerns or policy violations.
• Ensure the program area is safe for activities.
• Support other staff and the Program Director with tasks including tournaments, supervision, hallway duty, rules, and Club policies.
• Attend mandatory training and staff meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Provide support to the Program Director to ensure members participate in the daily age-appropriate activities safely, feel welcomed into the group setting, and follow the Club’s rules and policies. We have positions available at the Union Street Clubhouse, Jewett Street School, Highland Goffe Falls School and our newest location the Jordan Singer Youth Enrichment Center.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Run age-appropriate activities daily as discussed and agreed upon with the Program Director.
• Serve as a positive role model to the members to inspire them to realize their full potential.
• Interact with members to ensure they feel welcome and a part of the group.
• Encourage members to participate in the activities and programs planned for the day.
• Ensure members are acting and participating in activities in a safe manner and they are following the Club rules.
• Advise the Program Director when there are concerns about a member’s safety or failure to follow Club rules.
• Ensure the program area is safe for members to participate in activities and programs.
• Assist other staff and the Program Director with tasks needed, including tournaments, supervision, hallway duty, rules, and Club policies.
• Attend mandatory training and staff meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS

• Ability to consistently remain calm, focused, and professional in a large group and/or high-stress situation caused by conflict, difficult members, or parents. Ability to be flexible with base hours as assigned by the assigned supervisor to ensure coverage of all open hours of operation of the Union St. Clubhouse, school-based Extensions, or summer day camp program.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Actively supervise and participate in recreational, athletic, and educational activities, both indoors and outdoors.
• Stand, walk, run, and engage in physical play for extended periods (4-8 hours).
• Respond quickly and appropriately in emergencies, including the ability to move swiftly to ensure the safety of members.
• Maintain energy and alertness throughout extended shifts, often in a loud or high-energy setting.
• Work in various environments, including gymnasiums, playgrounds, classrooms, and outdoor fields.
• Lift and carry supplies or equipment weighing up to 25-50 pounds.
• Perform basic physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing stairs.
• Using general office equipment, including phones, copiers, and computer equipment.
