POSITION GOAL

To maintain all facilities in the assigned area of the School District in an acceptable manner so that the physical facilities are maintained in a condition of operating excellence and full educational use of them may be made at all times.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan, coordinate, construct, repair, and maintain the various physical facilities within the assigned area in the School District.
  • Work from drawings and sketches to estimate materials, supplies, manpower, and total cost.
  • Prepare a master work schedule and crew assignments; assign the work to the various carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry,
    electronic technicians, air conditioning mechanics, hardware mechanics, fire extinguisher servicepersons, cafeteria and industrial
    arts mechanics, etc., according to work orders, and visit each job assigned at frequent intervals and inspect for conformance to
    plans, specifications, and codes where applicable.
  • Inspect job during each visit for quality of workmanship, specified materials, progress, safety and cleanliness.
  • Clarify interpretation, if requested, with relation to plans and specifications.
  • Provide a full report of jobs daily activities to the Area Manager, Trades.
  • Advise the Area Manager, Trades of any or all problems requiring further discussion or clarification.
  • Assist in budget preparation.
  • Order materials as needed and make recommendations of supplies and equipment for purchase.
  • Maintain necessary personnel and other records related to the assignment.
  • Make annual inspection of each assigned school; make follow-up inspection on all unsatisfactory ratings.
  • Recruit, screen and recommend for hiring all craftspersons who meet the job qualifications and can perform the respective job responsibilities for hire; train all craftspersons for maximum efficiency and recommend formal training programs which will enhance their job-related skills; evaluate employees regarding their job performance.
  • Evaluate new materials, equipment and processes as to their utilization in the School District.
  • Obtain small contracts for various repairs and other services.
  • Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
  • Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
  • Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
  • Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
  • Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

A standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience and/or training related to the title of the position.
  • Experience must include three (3) years in a supervisory capacity involving commercial construction projects in Buildings and
    Grounds Maintenance.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver license.
  • Computer skills as required for the position
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • An earned associate's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience and/or training in the field related to the title of the position.
  • Preferred degree majors include building construction or related field.
  • Journeyman's license or certification in appropriate trade preferred.
  • Bilingual skills preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
