Job description

General Purpose

The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership who is responsible for a specific, assigned area of the Store as well as the general operations and supervision of the Store when functioning as the Manager on Duty. Area Supervisors are responsible for opening and closing the Store, supervising Associates, and maintaining a friendly, easy to shop environment. They ensure proper merchandise presentation and maintain a clean work area at all times. Area Supervisors also execute and supervise Company operational processes as needed.

Essential Functions
Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
  • Understand that safety is the number one priority and practice safe behaviors in everything they do.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment for everyone. Immediately correct or report any unsafe conditions or practices to Store Leadership.
  • Be responsible for security of building including entrance/exit control (Associate entry/egress, receiving door, daily trash removal, etc.), Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) devices daily function check, Cash Office security, armored carrier pick-ups and register area.
  • Remove clutter and ensure safe, clear egress to emergency exits.
  • Ensure customer safety including accident prevention, accident reporting and emergency procedures.
  • Test all fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.
Customer Service
  • Treat all customers, associates, and other leaders with respect.
  • Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times. Recognize associates using Company recognition programs.
Personal and Store Brand
  • Represent and support the Company brand at all times.
  • Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the Company Dress Code and ensure all associates adhere to it.
  • Keep all areas of the Store clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.
  • Be responsible for daily trash removal.
General Merchandising
  • Ensure recovery, sizing and markdowns are completed to Company standards through teaching, assigning tasks, and following up per Company best practice.
  • Be responsible for receiving merchandise trucks when needed.
  • Process all merchandise with a sense of urgency.
  • Handle all non‑merchandise inbound deliveries (e.g., signs, supplies, special deliveries).
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms.
  • Assist with delivery and placement of merchandise on the sales floor when all merchandise is processed.
  • Ensure any back‑stock is secured and processed to Company policy.
  • Mentor associates in department merchandising including back‑stock.
  • Reduce loss due to damage.
  • Ensure compliance with monthly presentation guidelines in the assigned area.
  • Conduct floor moves and signing, including promotional signing as needed.
  • Perform re‑wraps when required.
Loss Prevention
  • Understand and comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program. Maintain a large customer‑service presence on the sales floor, engage customers and associates, and increase loss‑prevention awareness.
  • Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions with associates and customers. Safeguard confidential information, cash, credit‑card information and merchandise.
  • Maintain the Public View Monitor (PVM) system properly.
  • Conduct “code” package inspections.
  • Execute Company Best Practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and touches.
Front End Supervision and Operations
  • Execute Company Best Practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and extra touches when working.
  • Maintain pace, energy and presence at the Front End, managing the line to expedite customer wait time.
  • Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage‑control policies and other front‑end procedures to meet friendly and productivity standards.
  • Control retail associates’ break schedule for backups, lunches and breaks.
  • Ensure all equipment is working properly.
  • Maintain proper supplies and recovery for the front end area.
  • Ensure go‑backs are expedited, properly scanned, security‑tagged and ticketed.
  • Teach all associates the “Scan and Bag” best practice.
  • Ensure salability of merchandise on the front end, aisle tables, men’s/women’s 4‑way features, and specialty racks.
Fitting Rooms
  • Maintain and keep the fitting rooms clean.
  • Ensure all fitting‑room garment tags are audited and accounted for under Company policy.
  • Ensure go‑back compliance throughout the day; all merchandise returned to the sales floor must be ticketed, scanned, nubbed and security‑tagged as required.
Administrative Duties as Assigned by Store Manager
  • Ensure cash pulls and bank deposits are conducted to Company policy.
  • Manage front‑end control when needed, adhering to policies and procedures for refund approval, associate purchase approval, securing tills and cash in safe, register paid‑outs/ins, void approval, register media and break schedules.
  • Administer payroll, including daily punch edits, associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission and payroll reporting as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the store manager.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.

  • Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements / ADA
  • Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers and PCs as required.
  • Spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store.
  • Regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Occasionally push, pull and lift more than 25 lbs.
  • Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders and other assigned supplies.
  • For stockroom shifts, regularly push, pull and lift more than 20 lbs.

Compensation

The base pay range for this role is $18.40 – $18.90. The range is dependent on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, qualifications, relevant education, certifications, seniority, and location. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards vary by position and location.
