General Purpose
The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership team and is responsible for a specific assigned area of the Store as well as the general operations and supervision of the Store when functioning as Manager on Duty. Responsibilities include opening and closing the Store, supervising Associates, maintaining a clean and welcoming environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and executing Company operational processes.
Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
- Understands that safety is the number one priority and practices safe behaviors in everything they do.
- Maintains a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment.
- Responsible for security of building including entrance/exit control, EAS devices daily check, Cash Office security, armored carrier pick‑ups and register area.
- Removes clutter and ensures safe, clear egress to emergency exits.
- Responsible for Customer safety including accident prevention, reporting and emergency procedures.
- Tests all fire alarm systems as scheduled and responds to after‑hours alarms when requested.
Customer Service
- Treats all Customers, Associates and other leaders with respect.
- Demonstrates courtesy, friendliness and professionalism at all times.
- Recognizes Associates using Company recognition programs.
Personal and Store Brand
- Represents and supports the Company brand at all times.
- Maintains a professional appearance in accordance with the Company Dress Code.
- Ensures all Associates adhere to the Dress Code at all times.
- Keeps all store areas clean, well‑maintained and merchandised to standard.
- Responsible for daily trash removal.
General Merchandising
- Ensures recovery, sizing and markdowns are completed to Company standards.
- Responsible for receiving merchandise trucks when needed.
- Processes all merchandise with a sense of urgency.
- Handles receipt of non‑merchandise inbound deliveries.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms.
- Helps deliver and place merchandise on sales floor after processing.
- Secures back‑stock and processes to Company policy.
- Manages merchandising of departments including back stock.
- Manages loss reduction due to damage.
- Ensures compliance with monthly presentation guidelines.
- Responsible for floor moves, signing and promotional signing as needed.
- Handles re‑wraps as needed.
Loss Prevention
- Understands and complies with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program.
- Maintains large customer service presence on the sales floor and engages with customers and associates.
- Safeguards confidential information, cash, credit card details and merchandise.
- Maintains the Public View Monitor (PVM) system.
- Conducts “Code 50” package inspections.
- Executes Company Best Practices to maximize productivity.
Front End Supervision and Operations
- Ensures Associates comply with Company standards at the front end.
- Maintains pace and energy, managing the line to expedite customer wait time.
- Trains and coaches Associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other front‑end procedures.
- Controls Retail Associates’ break schedule for backups, lunches and breaks.
- Ensures all equipment functions properly.
- Maintains proper supplies and recovery for the front‑end area.
- Expedites go‑backs, ensures proper scanning, tagging and ticketing.
- Teaches all Associates the “Scan and Bag” best practice.
- Ensures salability of merchandise on front end, aisle tables and specialty racks.
Fitting Rooms
- Responsible for maintenance and cleanliness of fitting rooms.
- Ensures all garment tags are audited and accounted for per Company policy.
- Ensures go‑back compliance throughout the day; all returned merchandise is ticketed, scanned, nubbed and security tagged as required.
Administrative Duties as Assigned by Store Manager
- Ensures cash pulls and bank deposits are conducted per Company policy.
- Handles front‑end control as needed and follows refund approval and other policies.
- Manages payroll administration, including punch edits, scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission and reporting.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Store Manager.
