Job summary

HF Sinclair Corporation is seeking an Area Specialist to oversee and direct multiple aspects of the Operations Department. The role focuses on keeping units running smoothly, implementing procedures, and coordinating with Engineering, Maintenance, Training and Shift Supervisors to ensure safe and profitable unit operations.

Job description

Basic Function

HF Sinclair is seeking an Area Specialist who oversees and directs one or more aspects of the Operations Department.


Job Duties


  • Keeps assigned unit(s) running smoothly and on spec with products

  • Establish, update and implement operating procedures to ensure optimization of assigned Operating Units

  • Prepares procedures for starting and stopping equipment, as well as starting-up/shutting-down units

  • Ensures all environmental rules and regulations are being met

  • Ensures operations are up-to-date with training

  • Works with maintenance on equipment maintenance scheduling and ensures proper maintenance priorities are set

  • Coordinates and acts as liaison with Engineering, Maintenance, Training and Shift Supervisors to facilitate communications, assign work priorities and ensure safe and profitable Unit operations

  • Troubleshoots operational and maintenance issues depending on location

  • May develop operating, shutdown, start-up and Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) lists and procedures, obtaining final approval for Management of Change (MOC's) in area of responsibility

  • May complete MOC requirements in a timely and efficient manner

  • May develop turnaround scope, depending on location

  • May provide justification for small capital projects and unit cost control, depending on location


Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their superior, as determined from timeto time in their sole and complete discretion.


Experience

A minimum of 10 years of on-the-job experience is required.


Preferred Experience:


A significant amount of experience in the energy industry is preferred.


Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelors Degree, or the equivalent amount of education and work experience, is required.


Required Skills

Ability to lead and direct the work of other associates. Basic ability to identify and solve problems and ways to optimize units that have a direct financial impact on success of company.Ability to handle high visibility projects and activities, high pressure situations, and long hours. Team player with ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication, and with the ability to work in a collaborative environment. Ability to interact with all levels of staff including engineers, operators, shift and maintenance supervisors. Intermediate computer skills, intermediate reading and writing skills and the ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations. PREFERRED SKILLS: Training in fire fighting and rescue training is preferred.


Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

Responsible for the supervision of approximately 21 employees.


Work Conditions

Office and Refinery/Industrial environment based with up to 5% travel by land and air is required. Petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant environment, out-of-doors, and driver based environment, including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, and routing equipment. Subject to all weather, temperatures, and varying road conditions. Subject to occasional weekend and after hour call-outs, and working in confined spaces.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, lifting and/or carrying up to 50lbs, pushing and/or pulling 25lbs, climbing up to 150ft, ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates, ability to wear personal protective equipment (beards not permitted), and strenuous physical activity.
