Job summary

Trane Technologies in Alabama seeks an Area Service Leader to oversee a geographic service area, lead a team of Area Service Managers, and drive safety initiatives while achieving budget targets.

The role reports to the Regional Service Leader with strategic 1–2 year outlook and coordination with the Area General Manager. Travel to customer sites is required, and leadership principles guide hiring and development.

Qualifications

• 5+ years’ experience in HVAC or related field, technical systems/equipment.
• 3+ years’ experience managing large teams and organizing work schedules.
• Project management experience to oversee startups and customer requests.
• Strong business acumen with knowledge of P&L and operating plans.
• Proficient with Microsoft applications; Salesforce is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license with clean record as required.
• Practical experience and alignment with leadership principles.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic outlook to grow the service business and hit targets.
• Manage P&L, forecast revenue, and drive service base growth with sales partnerships.
• Interface with customers on large projects and growing service business.
• Control budgets for overhead items across area and ensure safety compliance.
• Mitigate risk in service agreements and turnkey projects.
• Coordinate service, ensure training, and balance technician skill levels.
• Attract, coach, and develop service staff; uphold performance management and training.
• Collaborate with ASM team to meet margin expectations and standardize processes.
• Ensure EH&S compliance and provide safety training to the team.
• Travel to customer sites as required.

What's In It For You

Trane in Alabama is hiring for an Area Service Leader to join our team! In this role you will be leading a geographical Service area and will be responsible for strategy and achievement of budget objectives for area. The Area Service Leader leads a team of Area Service Managers to execute safety and human resource initiatives and achieve targets. This position is responsible for its strategic outlook (1-2 years) and interfaces with customers on high visibility projects. This position leads effective change management initiatives, leads all hiring, training, and safety initiatives for specific area. Typically the Area Service Leader position will report to the Regional Service Leader with a dotted line to the Area General Manager.

What You Will Do

• Strategic outlook-growing the business to meet targets (revenue, workforce forecasting, development of talent)
• P&L responsibility, provide monthly revenue forecasting, help drive service agreement base growth, repairs/installation/service turnkey growth by partnering with the acquisition team (sales).
• Customer interface when managing large projects and growing service business
• Budget Control Responsibilities including expenses as compared to targets for overhead items such as fleet, uniforms, tools and safety equipment.
• Risk mitigation - responsible for managing risk in service agreements, service turnkey and repairs work.
• Oversee the service coordination function to respond efficiently to customers, ensure technicians’ training and skill level is appropriately balanced to service customers, and leverage resources across the area.
• Effectively attract, coach, counsel, train and develop all service employees. Drive continuous improvement through company performance management process and technical product training programs available. Ensures that employee skill levels, including customer service, process and technical skills to the highest degree possible for area of responsibility.
• Works with ASM team to ensure margin expectations are met during sales and fulfillment activities. Ensures that standard service work processes are created and followed.
• Ensures environmental, health and safety compliance within service team. Ensures training is provided to all employees to ensure a safe and productive work environment both in the shop and at customer sites.
• Travel to customer job sites is required, which may include outdoor work and/or work in mechanical/equipment rooms. During the site visits, the employee may be exposed to variable weather conditions; moving mechanical parts; heights, and other variable environmental conditions based on location.

What You Will Bring

• 5+ years’ experience in HVAC or a related field, technical systems (or equipment or skilled trades).
• 3+ years’ experience managing and coaching large teams and organizing work schedules.
• Project management skills to oversee and drive successful project execution for startups and customer requests.
• Strong business acumen and analytical skills; Deep knowledge of P&L and annual operating plans.
• Tech-savvy with expertise in Microsoft applications. Salesforce experience considered an asset.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations included, but not limited to: DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless/Careless Driving or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.
