Job summary

Austin Bridge & Road is seeking an experienced Area Safety Manager for San Antonio, TX. The role reports to the Safety Director and includes monitoring regulatory compliance, developing and updating HSE policies, and leading a team of safety professionals across multiple projects in the region.

You will coordinate audits, lead safety training, participate in pre-bid safety planning, and ensure subcontractor safety plans meet company standards.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of construction safety management experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Safety and Health or related field preferred; CMAR and preconstruction experience preferred.
• CHST, ASP, or CSP certification preferred; bilingual in Spanish highly desirable

Austin Bridge & Road is currently seeking an experienced Area Safety Manager for projects in San Antonio, Texas. Under the direction of the Safety Director, the Area Safety Manager will be responsible for monitoring regulatory compliance along with the development, maintenance, and updating of HSE policies, programs and training material.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Supervisor up to 10 safety professionals assigned to various projects in the San Antonio area

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate and assist the Director with the contract review process
• Ensure adequate safety auditing for each project within area. (Scheduling)
• Lead regional safety representatives to develop/schedule/instruct/maintain area training requirements
• Lead safety role of pre-bid, construction process as requested by estimating
• Ensure subcontractor review and pre-construction meetings are completed for projects within area
• Responsible for planning and coordination of safety efforts. Safety planning includes annual safety execution plan.
• Review and provide guidance for subcontractor safety execution plans including Job Hazard Analysis
• Complete/Review Safety Action Plan for all new projects within area
• Establish medical care facilities for each project within region
• Ensure safety representative attends initial care with EO’s at any medical facility
• Represent Austin on local safety committees (where applicable)
• Review, Develop, Maintain corporate safety program documents
• Ensure lessons learned document is prepared following any first aid/recordable injury/life critical rule violation
• Assist in the reporting process for all near miss reports, develop distribution media (lessons learned, etc) for each
• Schedule/Participate/lead, when necessary, all cause analysis meetings within area
• Ensure all preventative measures identified in cause analysis reviews are implemented
• Develop/implement/maintain safety recognition program for area
• Develop/schedule/instruct quarterly safety meetings within area
• Liaison to any regulatory inspection in place of safety director, if unavailable
• Ensure adequate work planning on all area project locations. (JHA review, training, etc.)
• Serve as point of contact for safety field operation related matters within area
• Evaluate/assist in selection/preparation of weekly toolbox topics
• Evaluate and complete multi-rater reviews for all safety reps/managers under your supervision
• Review and participate in critical lift plan creation
• Ensure adequate safety presence during all critical lift craning operations.
• Schedule/Lead presentation of EO surveys as required
• Establish and implement safety training program within area, including maintenance for competent person designations
• Ensure training documents are properly stored in HCSS skills
• Assist project management to ensure consistent implementation of safety program (Includes recommendations for disciplinary actions to project management)
• Champion craft involvement in safety (CVIS) efforts
• Ensure craft safety committees (ACE Program) are established and functioning at all work locations in region
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• 10+ years of construction safety management experience
• CHST, ASP, or CSP certification preferred
• CMAR and preconstruction experience preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Safety and Health or a related field preferred
• Bilingual in Spanish highly desirable
• Good organizer, meticulous, and good public speaker at ease moderating large groups
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with project teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders
• Strong knowledge of heavy civil construction practices, techniques, and safety standards
• Excellent time management and organizational skills to effectively prioritize tasks and achieve desired results
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment and meet deadlines consistently
• Demonstrates a strong commitment to jobsite safety and adherence to all safety protocols
• Consistently practices and promotes safe work behaviors in all work activities

Requirements:

• Minimum of 5 years of construction safety personnel management experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint,)
• Requires working outdoors at times in the rain or snow and during cold, warm, and hot temperatures
• Must be able to work on call as needed
• Valid driver’s license
