Job summary

International Paper Prattville Mill is seeking an Area Process Manager Paper to oversee the day-to-day operation of a paper machine, leading safety, quality and productivity initiatives. You will direct salaried and hourly staff, set clear expectations, and drive environmental compliance across the area.

The role emphasizes developing SOPs, training materials, and process improvements while coordinating with other units to optimize production and meet targets.

Qualifications

• Five+ years of experience in Paper Machine Operations.
• Five+ years of management experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field or equivalent experience in Paper Machine Operations.
• Demonstrated record of safety commitment and results.
• Instill safety as a core value within the team and effectively communicate a shared vision for safety.
• Quickly develop thorough knowledge of mill equipment and systems.
• Utilize excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with groups and individuals at all levels.
• Utilize the International Paper Change Process to drive change.
• Utilize strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks effectively.

Position Title: Area Process Manager Paper

Pay Rate $130,000 -$180,000

The Job You Will Perform

The Prattville Mill is currently seeking an Area Process Manager Paper. The mill produces linerboard and currently employs approximately 600+ people.

The Area Process Manager will assist with managing the day-to-day operation of a paper machine. Provide leadership in a goals-oriented environment to deliver target results in the areas of safety, environmental, quality, productivity, employee engagement, and reliability excellence. Manage the performance and development of salaried and hourly members by setting clear expectations and standards of performance through effective one-to-ones. This position is responsible for safety, quality, environmental compliance, employee engagement, process productivity, efficiency, reliability, and area financial performance. Responsibilities will also include the direction of technical resources and process experts who support the area.

• Provide visible and active leadership in delivering excellent safety, quality, Operational and Reliability results
• Develop tools and systems to maintain compliance with all applicable environmental permitting and ensure all environmental compliance systems are reliable and accurate
• Manage training processes in Finished Products in alignment with GMTI to ensure a pool of highly skilled team members
• Build effective systems and materials such as operating procedures (SOP), troubleshooting documents (TCC), and other training materials
• Support engagement processes to ensure the crews have ownership
• Coordinate within the Finished Products Business Unit and other business units to optimize area production to meet the needs of the department and the mill, including process balances as needed (e.g. upset conditions and outages)
• Complete technical process evaluations and improvements
• Seek out and implement best practices using teams, databases, vendors, and other technical resources
• Support the manufacturing work systems (MWS) process to prioritize and plan daily work, routine outages, and annual outages including operational, maintenance, and contractor tasks
• Be active leader in identifying the capital needs, cost reduction initiatives and implementation to drive lower cost /ton
• Provide support for budgeting cycle targeted at delivering year over year savings
• Lead efforts and responsibility for daily production goals and quality specifications
