This role directs growth, ensures customer satisfaction, and maintains key client relations across multiple sites. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in public works with supervisory experience, a valid CDL, and wastewater certification; strong budgeting and leadership skills are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required with ability to obtain within 90 days.
  • Alabama Grade 3 Wastewater Certification required; other state certs preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years’ public works experience; supervisory experience essential.
  • Valid CDL and strong budgeting, scheduling, and leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Review and understand contracts for compliance and customer satisfaction.
  • Lead and train project staff; schedule work and identify project needs.
  • Maintain client relations and attend meetings to review financials and goals.
  • Prepare performance reports for upper administration and council as required.
  • Communicate with city officials, contractors, and public agencies daily.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operations and safety practices.

This individual will be responsible for providing direction, growth and ensuring the success of their assigned project locations.ResponsibilitiesReview and understand all contracts of assigned projects to ensure compliance and customer satisfactionMaintains ongoing client contact to keep the client informed and strengthen client relationsAttend monthly Project Manager meetings to review financials, set goals, and collaborate to maximize efficient operationsDevelop and maintain effective tools to measure growth and performanceReview and evaluate financial performance to determine activities required to meet the company’s goalsPrepare performance reports to upper administrationImplement and track performance by preparing weekly reports for each projectIdentify and suggest opportunities for employees to learn new skills, techniques and required trainingCommunicate daily with the Project Managers and assist with the organizing and scheduling of work and identify their specific project needsMaintain strong relationships with the city officials, employees, contractors, the general public, and representatives of other agenciesEnsures that business goals are effectively communicatedAttends customer meetings and handles resolution of service problems in a professional mannerPrepare clear and comprehensive verbal and/or written reports to council/board as requiredPerforms other related duties as directedHigh school diploma or GED (or ability to obtain within 90 days)Must reside in the state of AlabamaA minimum of an Alabama Grade 3 Wastewater CertificationAdditional State Certifications Preferred (Water Treatment, Wastewater Treatment, Natural Gas, Public Works)5 years’ experience in Public Works (specifically water distribution, natural gas distribution, WWTP, collections)Strong verbal and written communication skills5 years’ experience at a supervisory levelPossess a valid Commercial Driver’s LicenseKnowledge, Skills or Abilities PreferredKnowledge in municipal public works such as planning, design, maintenance, and constructionKnowledge in the operation and maintenance of equipment used in municipal public works operationsKnowledge in principles of budget preparation and expenditure controlKnowledge in Principles of Effective Management SkillsAbility to analyze, evaluate, and implement municipal public works and utility programs/projectsAbility to analyze organizational and administrative problems, recommend alternative courses of action, and provide leadership to others in implementing such actionsPhysical RequirementsMust be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, and perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to operate equipment, have vision sufficient to operate equipment, have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. In an 8-hour shift must be able to transport self, lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist height including items which may be bulky or awkward, climb into and out of vehicles having high ground clearance; carry a 50-pound tool box; use arms and back to tighten and loosen nuts and bolts; work in confined places; wear and use appropriate safety equipment.Work EnvironmentThe work area can involve a working environment indoors as well as outdoors, which could cause exposure to outdoor elements; proper environmental attire will be required. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, pathogens and various chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
