Job summary

Bechtel is seeking a seasoned Project Field Engineer in Houston to lead field engineering activities, plan work packages, manage materials, ensure quality and safety, and coordinate system turnover and subcontracts. You will oversee a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, complete, and compliant execution on major projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or international equivalent; 10–13 years of relevant experience, or 14–17 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in semiconductor, EV battery, data centers, or Pharmaceuticals preferred.
  • Hands-on implementation of AWP and OSM strategies; experience with project setup, system turnover, and completion preferred.
  • Proficiency with digital execution tools, 4D/5D planning, and analytics preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee field engineering activities to ensure safety, completeness and quality.
  • Coordinate design of temporary construction facilities and staffing plans.
  • Direct requisitions for field procured materials, services, equipment.
  • Own quantities take-off, control, reporting and forecasting.
  • Ensure zero-accident philosophy and QA/QC compliance across disciplines.
  • Coordinate reviews of inspection test plans and subcontractor submittals.

Project Overview:

Job Summary:

In this role, you will manage a team and provide field engineering leadership for work planning and packaging, material management, quantity validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and coordination of system turnover and subcontracts. Your oversight will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements.

Major Responsibilities:
  • On larger (PFE Tier II - >$1B and/or >1500 craft) or more complex jobs, performs the duties of the Project Field Engineer, responsible for coordination of all activities related to the area of responsibility and interfacing with all other operating sections of the job-site.

    Leadership/Supervision

    • Proactively engages with their teams' development through CPM, competency development/assessment and feedback
    • Develops and recommends the construction engineering staffing plan for approval by the Site Manager (or appropriate level of Project Management) and prepares employee requisitions.
    • Directs construction engineering activities of the assigned construction engineering staff, ensuring compliance with procedures.

    Work Planning & Packaging

    • Directs the design of temporary construction facilities as required.

    Material Management

    • Directs preparation of requisitions for field procured materials, material substitution, services, equipment.

    Quantities

    • Possesses responsibility for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting.

    Safety / Quality Control

    • Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.

    STR / Subcontract Coordinator

    • Reviews and approves inspection test plans
    • Coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Area execution leadership: Lead and integrate all discipline field engineers within the area to deliver safe, coordinated, and efficient construction execution.
  • Cross-discipline work planning: Align civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and piping activities to area priorities, sequencing, and constraints.
  • Schedule & performance ownership: Own area lookaheads, productivity, and critical path impacts; proactively remove constraints and drive recovery actions.
  • Safety, quality & compliance leadership: Set expectations and ensure consistent application of HSE and QA/QC requirements across all disciplines in the area.
  • Stakeholder coordination & decision authority: Act as the primary field interface for superintendents, construction management, engineering, and project controls; escalate and resolve issues decisively.
