Job summary

HDR is seeking an Area Electrical Business Class Lead in Minneapolis to guide a team of engineers and designers across healthcare, education, science, justice and technology markets. You will drive budgets, schedules, and staff directing electrical scope within Building Engineering Services.

You will establish client relations, coordinate with other groups, mentor staff, and ensure adherence to codes and HDR standards. HDR offers extensive benefits and an employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities

  • Establish client relations and be involved with marketing and client development activities.
  • Manage the technical and operational activities of the electrical discipline.
  • Prepare/review project budgets and scopes for the electrical discipline and track budget status.
  • Schedule and coordinate all work performed inside the discipline.
  • Establish work priorities and project assignments for staff.
  • Monitor scope of work and scope changes.
  • Facilitate coordination with other discipline groups.
  • Conduct interviews for new staff and mentor new employees.
  • Establish employee goals and conduct reviews.
  • Schedule and conduct section meetings to discuss productivity and quality control.
  • Advance staff skill levels through training and experience.
  • Coordinate with other location managers on workload and staffing.
  • Prepare/review scope of work and budgets/estimates for proposals.
  • Monitor changes in codes and client standards and update practice standards.
  • Lead as Project Manager or Task Lead when applicable.

Primary Responsibilities

HDR is currently seeking an Area Electrical Business Class Lead to lead a team of engineers and designers with experience in complex architectural engineering projects across several market sectors such as Healthcare, Education, Science, Justice, and Technology. The position is in our Building Engineering Services Design Center in Minneapolis, MN. The Building Engineering Services Design Center is a full service, multi-disciplinary team including mechanical, electrical, structural and civil engineers that is co-located with our Architecture Practice to support a collaborative and fully integrated design process.

In the role of Area Electrical Business Class Lead, we'll count on you to:

  • Establish client relations and be involved with marketing and client development activities.
  • Manage the technical and operational activities of the electrical discipline.
  • Prepare/review project budgets and scopes for the electrical discipline and track budget status.
  • Schedule and coordinate all work performed inside the discipline.
  • Establish work priorities and project assignments for staff.
  • Monitor scope of work and scope changes.
  • Facilitate and encourage coordination with other discipline groups.
  • Conduct interviews in support of the hiring of new staff for the section and provide new employee mentoring.
  • Establish employee goals and conduct employee performance reviews.
  • Schedule and conduct section meetings to discuss productivity, workload and quality control issues.
  • Advance the skill level of personnel through training, education, experience, etc.
  • Coordinate with the electrical discipline managers of other business group locations to review workload, project status, and staffing requirements.
  • Prepare/review electrical engineering scope of work and budgets/estimates for proposals.
  • Monitor changes in codes, regulations and client standards and keep staff up to date on current industry practices
  • Implement any required changes into the electrical design standards, procedures, and deliverables.
  • Perform quality control reviews.
  • Serve as a Project Manager occasionally and/or Task Lead when applicable.
  • Perform project engineer duties when required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • 10 years of experience
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
