Job summary

CRH Americas Building Products is seeking an Area EHS Manager to lead occupational health, safety, environmental and sustainability management for four locations in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan. This role is based at an Illinois site in Elgin or Romeoville and requires 60-75% travel within the Great Lakes region.

You will partner with operational leaders, supervise EHS professionals, oversee incident investigations, regulatory reporting, and implement IPG EHS standards to foster a proactive

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in EHS, science or engineering.
  • 5+ years in EHS or manufacturing with EHS responsibility.
  • Knowledge of OSHA CFR 1910 regulations; relevant safety certifications.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent EHS presence across sites and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Partner with Area General Manager to drive safety ownership at each site.
  • Lead EHS professionals to align with IPG EHS standards and expectations.
  • Lead/participate in operating plans, planning, audits, and regulatory reporting.
  • Supervise site EHS professionals across the region.
  • Onboard new EHS staff and managers as needed.
  • Oversee incident investigations and corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Advise management on implementing an innovative EHS management system in manufacturing settings.
  • Monitor EHS metrics, compile reports, and drive safety culture improvements.
  • Manage workers' compensation, general and automotive liability cases with insurer/legal teams.
  • Foster best-practice sharing and resource planning with Regional EHSS Director.
  • Set region/site priorities and resource support as needed.
  • Support environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives across the region.

The Area EHS Manager will be responsible for the occupational health, safety, environmental and sustainability management for four locations in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan. This position will be based out of one of our locations in Elgin, IL or Romeoville, IL. It reports to the Regional EHSS Director and partners closely with operational leaders. This position will require 60-75% travel between our four locations in the Great Lakes region.

Job Responsibilities
  • The Area EHS&S Manager will provide a consistent presence within the facilities they oversee and is expected to identify areas of improvement as well as present solutions to the operational teams which provide sustainable value for growth.
  • Be a partner to Area General Manager in ensuring ownership by all team members at each site.
  • Provide leadership to sites' EHS professionals and site managers to ensure the full integration into IPG EHS standards and expectations.
  • Actively participate on operational team in the areas of operating plans, strategic planning, EHS&S initiatives, internal auditing, management systems, compliance initiatives and governmental/regulatory reporting.
  • Supervise team of site based EHS&S professionals both directly and indirectly across the region.
  • Assist with onboarding new EHS professionals and operational managers across the region, as needed.
  • Providing oversight expertise for incident investigations, development of corrective plans and follow-up actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Advise and assist local management in implementing, managing and auditing within the framework of an innovative EHS Management Systems in a manufacturing and construction setting.
  • Monitor region's EHS metrics and trends, compile reports and share trends and corrective direction taking action in shifting our safety culture from rules and regulatory compliance to a safety culture developed as a behavior driven value at all levels of the organization.
  • Manage workers compensation, general liability and automotive liability cases; manage claims with medical team and coordinate with the insurance provider and legal counsel.
  • Develop best practice sharing and learning culture with emphasis on implementation across the entire region.
  • Establish region and/or site priorities and resourcing strategies in conjunction with Regional EHSS Director to identify resource support as needed.
  • Drive environmental compliance across the region and support in operational sustainability project roll outs and implementation.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in EHS, Science or Engineering related fields or relevant experience.
  • 5+ Years in EHS and/or Manufacturing with EHS responsibility.
  • Excellent communication skills able to reach across the various functional departments to facilitate seamless integration.
  • Expert knowledge of OSHA CFR 1910 regulations.
  • Strong project and process management skills, with experience managing major projects and/or change initiatives.
  • Detailed working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Ability to effectively navigate and research regulatory agency and industry related web content.
  • Nationally recognized Safety and Health Certifications (ASP, CSP, CIH).
  • Experience managing a team of direct and/or indirect reports.

  • Salary ranges from $100,000-$125,000.
