Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Valid Alabama certification in Educational Leadership, administration, and/or supervision.
  • Minimum of five (5) years successful classroom experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years successful administrator experience at the school level.
  • Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences in written and oral form using positive interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to reflect and apply knowledge from current research on best practices for improving student achievement.
  • Ability to supervise and evaluate assigned personnel.
  • Ability to employ effective coaching and facilitation skills to lead school teams to plan for and respond to learning across all content areas.
  • Knowledge of school law, Board policies, safety and security procedures, and State Department of Education regulations.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.
  • Ability to use technology to plan, communicate, and manage data, and to produce/ submit required reports, correspondence, and/or complete tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Physical strength, stamina, dexterity, and acuity to perform essential job functions and responsibilities.
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
  • Develops clear, specific, and ambitious performance targets and evaluates progress of cohort programs and initiatives.
  • Holds parties accountable and helps adjust strategy to achieve goals laid out by the District leadership.
  • Maintains constant contact with schools, spending time in the schools they manage, working with leadership teams.
  • Conducts observation of designated personnel and provides follow-up conferences.
  • Develops, supervises, and evaluates principals in his or her cohort according to policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
  • Provides principals with constructive feedback, information, resources and assistance as needed.
  • Participates in parent and/or employee conferences as needed.
  • Builds instructional leadership capacity of principals and school leadership teams with focus on pedagogy, data analysis, intervention, and professional development.
  • Collaborates with Central Office departments to provide system resources that address school needs.
  • Fosters a collaborative professional learning community among administrators across assigned schools.
  • Collaborates with other Area Directors to share best practices.
  • Develops and implements resources and services for students aligned with the district's school turnaround strategy.
  • Monitors progress of initiatives by reviewing documents and data; recommends adjustments as needed.

Job Goals:

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
  1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.

  4. approach accordingly to achieve goals laid out by the District leadership, especially the system's
  5. strategic plan.
  6. Maintains constant contact with schools, spending approximately 80% of his or time in the schools
  7. they manage, working with the leadership teams of those schools.
  8. Conducts observation of designated personnel and provides follow-up conferences.
  9. Develops, supervises, and evaluates principals in his or her cohort according to the State Department of Education and/or Jefferson County Board of Education policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
  10. Provides principals with constructive feedback, information, resources and assistance as needed.
  11. Participates in parent and/or employee conferences as needed.
  12. Builds the instructional leadership capacity of principals and school leadership teams with
  13. particular focus on pedagogy, data analysis, intervention, and professional development.
  14. Collaborates with Central Office departments to provide the appropriate system resources that
  15. address the needs of schools.
  16. Fosters a vibrant and collaborative professional learning community among administrators across
  17. assigned schools.
  18. Collaborates with other Area Directors to share best practices.
  19. Collaborates with central office and school-based leadership to develop, implement, and/ or
  20. obtain and provide needed resources, services and materials for students in alignment with the
  21. district's school turnaround strategy.
  22. Monitors progress of initiatives by reviewing documents and work-in progress; recommend
  23. adjustments to project plans as needed. Communicate progress status, changes, needs, etc. in a
  24. timely and effective manner to appropriate audiences.
  25. Maintains a current knowledge base in the areas of curriculum and instruction, best practices in
  26. education, special education, strategies for school improvement, strategies for closing achievement
  27. gaps, effective project management and communication strategies, all applicable federal and state
  28. regulations, and all local district policies and procedures.
  29. Assists school leadership teams in the analysis of academic achievement data, student progress,
  30. and program effectiveness for continued improvement.
  31. Exhibits professionalism in the workplace and provides exemplary customer service to all
  32. employees and potential employees.
  33. Facilitates solutions and identify discrepancies between goals and current status in order to
  34. stimulate achievement.
  35. Works cooperatively and productively with other system staff to ensure the system's vision,
  36. goals and strategies are implemented and providing all pertinent data to all appropriate personnel
  37. within the designated time frame.
  38. Assists with the coordination of instructional programs and services to ensure efficient
  39. implementation and avoid duplication or overlap of efforts, and support a systemic approach to
  40. curriculum and instructional planning, development, implementation, and evaluation.
  41. Participates in school advisory, business, and community groups and activities; serve with other educational leaders on work groups, committees, and project action teams that directly support schools.
  42. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or working irregularities to the Deputy Superintendent.
  43. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
  44. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal and local laws.
  45. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
  46. Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
