Qualifications

• Successful completion of an approved program in ultrasound technology.
• Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography preferred.
• Must be registered by ARDMS.
• One year of ultrasound experience preferred.
• Certification in abdomen and OB/GYN required; other certifications preferred.
• Current BLS certification.
• Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements must be maintained as appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations according to physician orders.
• Utilizes the appropriate equipment for the ordered exam.
• Prepares patients and provides instructions for ultrasound examinations.
• Assesses patient discomfort and contacts physician for intervention when needed.
• Maintains patient safety and minimizes healthcare errors while performing imaging.
• Enters exam data and accurate patient information into computer systems.
• Operates and maintains ultrasound transducers and monitors image quality.
• Maintains QC logs and records; performs routine maintenance on equipment.
